Third shift league problems
« on: October 17, 2008, 02:12:54 AM »
I bowl on Thursdays at Ball Park Lanes (near Yankee Stadium) in the Bronx, NY. My league starts at 8:15pm, right after a doubles league and a seniors leagues bowls before that. My teammate told me that the house triple-oils the lanes in the morning and thats it. I'm having problems getting my ball to stay in the right side of the headpin.  I'm a stroker to tweener with medium revs and ball speed. I've tried several balls (Reactive Sidewinder, Power Machine, Tilt,High Voltage, Razyr, Full Tilt) and I'm having problems getting a consistent reaction. As far as the Razyr, I bought it not too long ago, so I'm still learning it. One thing, I cant go too far inside with it.

I'm trying to figure out a line to play. I see the crankers having success going inside and sending the ball out to around 7-8, but I don't have that power. I can't go outside because it will go too early. Basically I'm stuck in the middle.

Any suggestions? I'm avg 175 in this house and I need to get going

Sounds like its going to be tough to be consistent anywhere but deep inside. You should take the opportunity to work on trying to play the inside line with the "crankers". If the lanes are as dry as you say they are, you wont require the revs that you think you might need. You just need to have the right axis tilt and get the ball to the dry. Try to keep your hand under/behind the ball as long as possible. With your fingers in a 7 or 8 O'clock position you should be able to generate the tilt needed to get the ball to get down the lane then come back and carry.

Thanks, Neb. Looking at the balls I have in my post, what would you use to play the shot you described?

You say outside, how far out do you go.I bowled a league last yr. with the same issue's.I got a jazz an played up 3-4 board an wacked them.I was the only one out that far.The closest one's to me were in around 8-9 which left me alot of boards to the left where I could migrate.I finished that league with a 223 avg.

The furthest I went out was around 8. The ball starts hooking as soon as it his the lane. On your line, how are you releasing the ball?

To play the shot deep inside, which ball that I listed would work on this? My Attitude is polished with the pin directly above the bridge and cg kicked out, Power Machine with the pin above the ring and MB kicked out. My High Voltage has the pin and cg stacked over the ring.
