Vise Interchangeable Thumb Insert
« on: July 01, 2008, 11:41:01 PM »
My ball driller asked me last night if I'd like to be a guinea pig for trying the new Vise interchangeable thumb insert.  I currently have the Turbo switchgrip thumb insert, but we haven't been happy with the quality control (outer sleeves not fitting properly, inner sleeves breaking, etc.), so he's bought the kit and is going to try the Vise ones.  Has anyone gotten a chance to use Vise's yet, and what's your opinion on them?  Unfortunately, their website has zero information on them right now as well:  http://www.viseinserts.com/it.html

Going to be hard for many people to have an opinion.  You're probably one of the few who know this to actually be in existence.  My driller waited for months for Vise to release this and they never did.  He finally gave up and used the Turbo one.  As you see on the site, there's not exactly much info out there.  I'm curious myself as to what the locking mechanism is going to be.  I'm sure turbo and griploc have both patented their designs which from what I "heard" is part of where the problem was coming in.

Let us know how they work out.  Some pics would help too of course.

They shipped out early this week from the west coast.  When my ball driller gets them in, he's going to install one (at no charge for the first one since I'm the guinea pig) in one of my balls.  I'll try to remember to bring my camera to show how it works.  I glanced at the installation instruction sheet and it looks like a well-engineered system.  They went to a lot of effort to make sure the insert stays in the ball and doesn't break it looked like.

Saw the system in Vegas at the High Roller.  The slug is a basic Vise Easy.  The connection is a screw type with threads.  You need to glue the connection in the bottom of the thumb hole and the bottom of the slug.  The size of the hole is 1/16 greater than the thumb slug.  The drill bit is set up so you drill to the same depth all the time.  There is a sleeve that is about 3/4 inch that is glued to the top of the thumb hole to make up the 1/16 difference between the slug and hole size.  If the sleeve or slug sticks up above the ball surface you can cut it down like any slug.
