Vise Vaccu Inserts pros & cons
« on: November 14, 2008, 03:35:24 AM »
I am going to put some Vaccu inserts in a couple of my balls to see how they work. My fingers late in the week, swell so bad it is hard to get my fingers comfortably in without using baby powder.

Any negatives to using these. They seem to like they might stick out of the finger holes easily. That is something I don't like visual wise.

The only negative I've found is that they do need to be replaced much more frequently than if you do a standard insert installation.  Otherwise, they're wonderful.

Who cares what it looks like as long as it works??  If you carefully install them, they shouldn't stick out much if at all (you need to trim the bottom of the insert to get the best fit usually).  But even if they do poke out, so what?

just something that does not please my eye. Was just wondering if that happened alot, nothing that would steer me away from purchasing them. My pro shp guy said he would charge 5 dollars a ball to put them in, I thought that sounded like a good price so don't want to pass that up.

New razor blade should do the trick to cut the grips flush with the ball. I've found using vacu inserts they tend to stretch after a while and start to stick out of the ball. Cutting them with a razor blade a second time extends the life of the grips longer.

Pro: comfort
Con: stretch out and should be replaced more frequently.

Every ball I've owned for the past 5-6 years has had them.

Thanks for sharing. % dollars every few months ins't hurting me so sounds like a good investment.

bowling becomes much harder when you can't even ghet your fingers in where you normally place them right around the start of the second game. it has been driving me crazy.

Why do bowlers want a tight fit on their fingers?  The only part of the hole that counts is the front, where you rotate and lift.  The sides and back are just along for the ride.  My MF is 3/4", but I have thrown balls drilled for grips without the grips, 31/32" holes, and see no difference in ball reaction.  Use two or three sizes larger grips and I'll bet you don't see any difference either.  --  JohnP

technically speaking if the grips do stick out and you are bowling a tournament you could get disquailfied. but someone would have to really hate you to do that lol

I recently made the switch to vacu grips and I am glad I did. I was to the point were I have to have 2 balls with 2 different size grips so that when my fingers would swell up I would be able to bowl. NOT NOW!!!! Everything I own has vacu grips and I couldnt be happier. Great feel, Easy to get my fingers in the holes. Wouldnt ever go back

When I drill a ball with vacu i dont use the green inserts that you are supposed to glue in. Just drill the 1 1/32 hole about 1 1/4 inches deep, then use a 31/32 bit to drill the rest of the way.

I never have issues with the inserts sticking out this way

I have been using Vacs for about 5 years and haven't had a real problem of them stretching out but I have some customers that it happened to. I don't really go for the TIGHT fit that expands the insert every time I put a finger in it. I use a comfortable size and only expand the grips when my fingers are swollen as opposed to tight to start that you are expanding the insert every time you put your fingers in them!!

First thing i would do if fingers are sweeling really bad check ur span . Fingers swell and shrink some but shouldnt be that bad. After that if you still want vac u  grips try them . I use them and great change for me. I had problem of ripping my fingers open and shredding the grips. With vac u grips i dont get that anymore. You will drop roughly 2 sizes in grips and fingers will wiggle into grips instead of just sliding into them. Good luck on what ever yo do

i just got them put in on Sunday. They feel really nice. We opted as Raiderboy was talking about to use a size that was comfortable, not really snug, while my hand was at its normal size, and then they will just come in handy when they are swelling.

Seems like that will make them last longer
