I bowled in a tournament this weekend with a few of Sawbones Flingers. I was asked to sub in that tournament because I wouldn't pay to bowl in a 80% of 220. Anyway, they have 2 teams (ten bowlers) and they do a 10 way split on everything that is won in that tournament. As a sub, I agreed to do the same split with them.
In singles, one of the Flingers shot 300, 246, 300 and won the singles for 2300.00. He carried everything with his power and had several boards to play with. We moved a pair to our right and the same flinger shot 570. Who cares, the guy won 2300 for us.
So, Sawbones, which would you rather have, a guy that is going to shoot 680 in Singles and 680 in Doubles?
Face it, todays THS are designed for the flinger who can match up and toss Thunderstrikes. It's do or die and if you're not someone who can put those kind of numbers together, don't shoe up.
I've resigned to those handicap tournaments for that reason. Even though this cat is shooting scratch, one of the others in that group is shooting off of 205 and shot 750 in Singles. He may not even have shot 500 in Doubles.
If it's a tough shot, maybe I'd pick a Bob Hanson who can grind out a good set of a tough condition, but on a THS, I want a Flinger.
I'm in a tough position myself. I can shoot 1900 to 2100 in those tournaments but have not handicap so I'm lucky to get a little check along with a little bracket money.
Flinger are here to stay, Long live the Flinger.
