Definition of "mixed league"?
« on: August 11, 2004, 11:38:59 AM »
I'm in an ABC sanctioned mixed league and last year the question was brought up about whether there has to be at least one male and one female on each team.  The majority voted that a mixed league can have either a mix of men and women on one team, all 4 men on one team or all 4 women on one team.  Now, the team that has had all 4 men has won 3 times in a row.  Only one other team in the league out of 26 teams were all girls but there was still a blind.  This year I know a lot of people are going to push for the rule where every team has to have at least one male and at least one female.

What does everyone think of that?

Well out of the 26 teams last year only one team was all the same sex.  So there are definitely enough women.  Last year about 60% voted against the rule for at least 1 male/1 female teams.   This year I think more people will want to enforce it.

A league I bowled in for a long time was a 4 person team.  The rule was 2 men and 2 women.  Over time it became more and more difficult to get enough women.  The rule has since changed to at least 1 man and 1 woman for each team.

Our mixed league has a rule in it that there has to be at least 2 ladies per team if possible.

Bones,...Men and Women in the same league can be a mixed league,(or not), the requirement for members on a team is a league rule...

"mixed league" is a phrase which has a couple of different meanings, depending on the point of reference.

In ABC (should I be using USBC now?) terms, a mixed league is one in which members sanction in both ABC and WIBC. Simply having a female bowl in a league does not make it a mixed league in ABC's eyes.

Leagues can have different definitios of "mixed", depending on team composition, distribution, etc. Most common people consider it a mixed league if there is any combination of the sexes.

Rule 100b. A mixed league is one in which both women and men participate and identifies itself as mixed. Teams may be composed of all women, all men or both women and men.

IF ABC SAYS IT .. IT MUST BE TRUE .. OK I'll agree with that .. what exactly did they say?

quote:
A mixed league is one in which both women and men participate

this statement it quite clear!

quote:
and identifies itself as mixed

Why is this added? .. does it mean if both sexes bowl and they call it MEN'S LEAGUE .. it's NOT A MIXED LEAGUE? please fill me in!

If both sexes bowl and it is not mixed then it is an ABC league without any WIBC sanctioning. All members (both men and women) would be required to be ABC sanctioned.

A mixed league is just a league where both men and women bowl in the same league. thats all it is and there shouldn't be a restriction as to if there should be a mix of sexes...
