Nationals - If you had one ball ....
« on: February 05, 2004, 06:40:48 PM »
Hey everyone.  Here's the situation.  You are ready to head to Reno this year, but only have room for a plastic spare ball and one other ball (this is sort of realistic since a double bag is all the airlines will allow you to bring and you need the other luggage for clothes, etc).  Anyway, you have a choice of picking out any one single ball to bring along with you for the tournament (assume you have access to any NIB ball... from distant past through current releases... and would get it punched up before leaving).  Which ball would you choose, what layout would you choose, and what part of the lane would you tentatively play?

yes.. good to hear from down under!!!  Hard to argue with proven success (wasn't an old solid pulse used last yr to win??? - Bahr  And I think Sapp was throwing an addiction...not sure about the others...).  Although I'm fairly confident those guys could score with a lot of different equipment.  We had a local guy throw 300 (even had his picture posted) using (I believe) a urethane blue hammer!

Just a quick note, unless things have changed, the ABC does not allow you to change the balls surface after it leaves the paddock at the Nationals.  That includes polishes, cleaners, etc.

wow.. that's great...  Was that the solid or pearl pulse?  The pulse is a super-flex cover and a mild core correct???  Many people seem to love that ball

Even though I primarily use Storm these days and they are a sponsor for my tournament. If I had to make the choice today, I would have to use what worked best last year. That is my Trimax III, pin over bridge and 12:00, and it is polished nicely. It let me get 4th or 5th arrow and snap the ball back into the hole. Had my best year so far, managing a low 1800 and getting my first 1099. Quite a surprise since I really did not get rich in brackets, especially when you figure in the cost. I am looking seriously at the Triple X drilled the same to see if I can replace this ball with my favorite company. My next choice would be my Eraser PP with pin over ring or maybe my old Eraser drilled the same. The Eraser PP gave me the best look on the Sport tourney last year and I had to go to the old Eraser the last game and half of singles.

Right now it would be a toss up between my Carbide C Pearl and my Track TKO. Both awsome for me would have to do a coin flip on that one.

Dynothane Thing.  Lots of midlane and could be tweaked to handle medium light to medium heavy oil.

If it was only one ball.  I'd play it safe and go back to urethane.  Probably a blue or burgundy hammer.

Is that the one and only, "NAD"???

I think team gets a fresh shot... but what about singles/doubles???  How about if you are assigned to bowl a later shift...  by that time the heads have broken down a little... the backends have some carrydown...  everyone who has read these posts has played the 16-24 boards all day and now they are bone dry...  WOuld you try moving in deeper and playing 25-28...or would it be better to move out (oin this case into the oil a little more) and play a 13 to 10 line?  Or play straight up 5??  What type of ball/reaction would this require?  Just trying to keep the post and information flowing.  Thanks everyone!

I'd take my Black Thunder Storm since it arcs and doesn't skid/snap or do that over/under stuff, and my White Dot

I post a thread about pots which everyone plays but I don't get any replys.  However this guy ask about one ball to take and you guys jump all on it like it's the thought of the day!!!!!!!  what the he_ _ !!!!  Everyone on this site has an average of at least 5 balls.  Why in the he_ _!!! would you take one?  You buy balls with the money you make from bowling pots but you can't reply!!!!  Sometime you guys amaze me!!!!

Because most people travel to nationals via AIRPLANE.  Assuming you don't use all of you luggage space for equipment (even if you did, the max you could take would be 4 balls)... you are only going to have 1 bag with equipment.  My understanding is the airlines don't allow 3 balls bags (even if they did, you would have to pay a penalty for being over 50lbs).  SO, it is very possible that people will only be taking one ball and a spare or two balls on their trip.  So in summary, think before you post stupied and unrelated comments...  As far as not posting under YOUR topic...people have read probably read your posts, such as the one above, before and don't care to leave their thoughts

Cheers,

For me, a pearl with good length.  Super Beast preferably.  If I needed something a little stronger, Messenger Ti Pearl.
