Sure.
No axis rotation means the ball is rolling straight down the lane, parallel to the gutters. So if a broom stick was stuck through the middle of the ball each end of the stick would be pointing at a gutter.
90 degrees of axis rotation is complete side roll. For a right-hander, the ball is rolling (but not travelling) towards the left gutter. So if a broom stick was stuck through the middle of the ball, one end would be pointing towards the head pin, the other towards the foul line. The ball is rolling "to the side", hence "side roll".
