There are some great regional guys in the southern region as I am sure there are in all the regions and its always nice to get to see some of the national guys as well.  I would have been there as it is within a few hours about 2 1/2 for me and I do like to watch the regionals but I was helping with a demo day in Charlotte,NC.  Nice to see the leftys keeping up the good work and winning ways though.  Its really amazing to watch these guys in person, I had been to several on saturday to watch qualifying, but finally at the one in gastonia since it is pretty close to me I got to go watch on sunday for match play and it was really awesome. I have personally met/been introduced to Mike Machuga and Dave D'Entremont when they were at Fayetville and they are to of the nicest guys around.

South has a real good crop of young bowlers who had been on tour for the last few years. I really liked Randy Weiss and Tommy Jones. It will be a fun year to watch regionals as a lot of talent who didn't make the exempt will be vying for the points leads for next year exempt status. Vanderhoef puts a ton on the ball which from time to time hurts him but he is fun to watch.

I think that now that regionals are so important to advancing to the tour that players from the exempt tour should NOT be allowed to participate!

I don't know if players from real tour in the PGA can go and take away cheese from Nationwide(non exempt) players in golf and so it should be here too!

When the regionals were not so important who cared.  Also to the serious hobbiest who wants to bowl and see the best that's ok but as one of the only ways to advance to the big tour!  Not OK!

I agree with you LuckyLefty all the way. It is the same as having a home run
derby in your home town and here comes Barry Bonds saying, "I am in the contest."

Wished I had known about the tournament in G'ville.  I would loved to have seen Walter Ray and Patrick in person.  To brag a little, I bowl at Park Lanes in W. Columbia, SC.  Randy Weiss and Jerry Horn run the pro shop there.  Randy has drilled all of my current equipment except the spare ball.

Seeing the names of several of the bowlers that were in Greenville reminded me of an annual tournament that is held in Columbia each year in late December: Jeff Bellinger's Big Dawg event.  This last year there were about 25-30 guys entered, with Randy, Jerry, Ritchie Allen, Chris Collins, and Chip Collins being the best known.  The final four turned out to be the Collins', Ritchie Allen, and Jeff Leaphart (another local guy who's been on the regional circuit).  Jeff ended up winning the finals in a quite exciting game against Ritchie Allen.

So, when and where does the Spartanburg event take place?

its sept 24-26 at shamrock lanes also if you want to check where regionals are in your area go to pba tour web site look in the south turkey burbon tour for the events in this region there is also other regions listed .i posted this to let people know there are avenues out there to see these pros up close and see what it takes these guys are great, but they started like me and you we can learn a lot from them and by people informing me of these things and giveing me pointers i am trying to give a little back to this site so if you can go out and support these guys they love it when they see a fan base there and they do put on a show like when ritchie allen knew he had lost, on his last frame he split and left a 4-8-10 and when he went to pick it up he threw two balls and just about got it he did leave the 8 pin but the fans roared there approval .billy
