Decided to stop using urethane lifts.
« on: December 08, 2012, 07:14:00 PM »
Recently made the decision to stop using the Vise lifts, or even thumb slugs, and my game has gotten back to where it use to be before i started using them. I'm far more consistent, have better feel of the ball, and even get more revolutions.

I'm thinking it's that there's more friction between my fingers and the ball itself, versus against the urethane which had a lot of give to pressure.

On another note, I tried a Sarge Easter drilling on a The Thing Lives I had sitting around, and I had so much ease adjusting to the finger differential, it was awesome. Made it easier to change hand position, too, and could go up the back much firmer if I needed to!

Just an all around positive change, and was curious if anyone had the same or opposite thing happen for them.

Doom,

I think you are getting overly angry about this topic. You did say no one should use them. When you said it, it was your opinion and nobody doubts that. The problem is, that it is not based on any fact, just your opinion. There are many superb ball drillers out there that install inserts everyday. Not all inserts have 1/4 pitch. Ovals do not. I would think if what you say had any merit, ball drillers nationwide would be telling people not to use inserts. I personally have found that having a power lift insert for my middle finger and an oval for my ring has improved my release greatly. That's my opinion and doesn't apply to anyone else, unlike your statement which was directed at all bowlers.

Tony, I have no problem with inserts. They provide comfort to a lot of bowlers. I do not think that power lifts are good. That's my opinion. The need to "hit" the ball is over, and has been over since about 94. They keep people in the fingers too long, making them miss the flat spot at the bottom of the swing, and personally, I feel it doesn't allow people to project the ball into the lane.

And LGD is just a fool. You must not read the non modded forum. Good for you. :)

What a tool.  I'll make it a point to ignore your contradictory posts in the future.
Long Gone also posts the honest truth which is why i respect him. He posts these things knowing some may not like it.

Doom,

I understand your view and I do agree on your point of power lifts keeping you in the ball too long and missing the flat spot on the bottom of the swing. That is a problem I have when I put new ones in. Until they wear a little, I sometimes stay in the ball a fraction of a second too long.

Wow there are some real pricks on this board. IMO = IN MY OPINION! If someone believes no one should use lifts who cares?!?!? It's his OPINION and he and everybody else in here have the right to have and state his or her own!

I put my opinion on the 40 frame tournament at Nationals last year just being too much and affecting the outcome of my nationals score (IMO) and some guy got on here and started bashing me and asking me if I was dumb to know that 40 frames is equal to 4 games...geez if you can't comment on someone's opinion without bashing them I say go somewhere else...like a democratic party board or something! haha

Sorry to jack the thread.

As for the lifts...to me it seems like it is easier to feel a bad release without them vs with them.

I think I can feel a bad release every time that I have one and I use inserts.

Tony, that's totally OK. How I feel about use of a grip shouldn't change what works for you.
