Wanting a new ball...

First post here, so be gentle.

I'm a novice bowler and have joined a league recently and am looking to upgrade my gear from the used ball I purchased to learn this hookin' stuff.

I have my first lesson tomrrow and plan to rely on the input of my instructor, pro shop dude and others that know more about this than I in selecting which ball, drilling, etc. to use.

Is there anything I should be sure to ask, or info to be armed with before spending some of my hard earned money? (I'm not at all up to speed on all the techno-jargon) I want to be sure I make a good decision since the well isn't super-deep when it comes to money to throw into this.

No one on here can help you much since we dont know your style or anything like that. Best bet is to just do as they say, but ask your coach first, because he can watch you bowl, then he can suggest a ball.

Ragnar and BK are right on.

To add to what Ragnar states, there are plenty of entry-level $50-100 balls that outhook many of my $150+ equipment.

so..  what would a more expensive ball offer that a midline ball doesn't?

I'd second that scout suggestion, that was my first ball to. Though if you already have a style and release down, I dont think it would hurt to buy a reactive scout for around 80 bucks.

Since you are currently throwing a flash point, I would be open to a resurface and polish if necessary and possibly a re-drill.  That's a pretty new ball and you should be able to work with it a little bit.
