Weak layout for hyroad pearl
« on: November 21, 2013, 07:48:30 PM »
I'm looking for a really weak layout for a hyroad pearl. Something that let's me play the dry area. I bowl on kegel challenge series shots, and have nothing weak. I know this ball isn't really made for what i want it for, but I couldn't pass up the deal.
My specs (what I know)
Ball speed 17-18 at the pin deck
Rev rate 400ish
Pap 4 1/4> x 1^
Medium-medium low tilt (havnt had it checked so exact number is unknown at this point.)
Any other info you may need, let me know.
I also tend to belly the ball sometimes which makes it hard to keep the ball from over reacting. Obviously lol
Looking for a smooth layout.

Thanks.

Also, in trying to understand this. If in a symmetrical ball, the strongest pin to pap is 3 3/8. What makes a shorter pin to pap like 1 or 1 1/2 inch make it stronger then a 5 or 5 1/2 inch pin to pap.
Sorry if that's confusing lol

you are correct that 3 3/8" is the stongest pin position on symmetrical cores. going closer to the axis with the pin will cause less flare but earlier roll. which will create early hook. going farther than 3 3/8" will cause less flare and later roll. the shorter pin layouts like 2" for example are very good for wet/dry and short patterns for a control ball that will provide a hook/set shape. if you go with the further pin distance like 5 1/2" pin down layout you will let more length becuase of the decreased flare and smoother shape from the bigger VAL angle. although being a hyroad pearl i dont know how smooth it will be

That's actually a bigger problem than what you think it is.  A weak drilling won't overcome ball design, it will just make it erratic and most likely very over/under.  A weak drilling will just make it more sensitive to wet and dry.  Honestly I'm not going to suggest anything because I don't really think you're going to get what you want out of it.  If you got a deal on it, I'd trade down for something else.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

Thank you both. And thanks for your honesty Gizmo. Maybe I'll trade something else for a weak ball.

I'm not trying to be an ass or talk down to you, you pretty well hit the nail on the head yourself, was just more or less supporting that side of your internal debate lol.

I didn't take it that at all. I've been bowling for a long time, but just started about a year or 2 ago trying to learn about layouts, angles, and that other bowling lingo lol. I value everyone's opinion, whether it's what I want to hear it or not lol.
