Help I'm rolling over the thumb hole
« on: October 29, 2014, 02:51:05 AM »
So for quite a while now when I check my track after throwing a ball my first two or three rings start on the thumb hole, I don't roll over the finger hole.  I have tried many a different hand positions, releasing earlier and later etc.  I'll post a video link for you to see what I'm doing.  Basically I am lost and I have a new Crux on the way  8) and I want to figure this out before I punch it up.  I dunno if it's me, a layout issue (the ball in the video is a Critical Theory drilled pretty standard pin up above the ring finger) or possibly a curse.  Any ideas are more than welcome, I appreciate the help.

How long is your span?

I would check with your PSO to see if your span needs shortening or more forward in the fingers. I would also work with a coach for a few sessions to get that timing better. Understandable about the shoes but the timing is so late that that could be a contributor.

That's tough.  You are able to really torq the ball.  One of the guys j bowl with has your problem, its because he over rotates his around the ball....I'm not saying you are but he ends up laying it down incorrectly and it rolls over his thumb.  Have the pro shop guy help you!

The simplest way to think of this is your fingers are on the outside of where your thumb is at release....and you dump your thumb at the release creating a full roller release similar to David Ewald

Your problem could result from a poorly fitting thumb hole. If the thumb hole is too large, you will squeeze the ball to maintain your grip. We all apply some pressure with the thumb, but a snug thumb grip will minimize squeezing and help the thumb get cleanly out of the ball. Tape may help tighten the grip.

As other posters have recommended, your local pro shop may be able to help.

Is the MB too close to your thumb hole? You mention pin up, but where is everything else located?
