Walter Ray Today
« on: November 09, 2008, 11:03:27 AM »
What else can anyone say about Walter Ray that hasn't already been said , 44 years old and still going strong. In the championship match gets a split was very surprised with that results , makes an adjustment and ends the game with seven strikes in a row. He averaged 251 for the two games, even for those who do not like Walter Ray's game you have got to admit he did one very good job today, wow and did he ever. I'm thinking it's possible for him to win 50 titles and then it won't be long he will be bowling senior's and should do very well there as well. Congratulations Walter great job and like the man said straighter is greater

Has anyone else realized that he would literally be unstoppable on the senior tour, I dont know how he could lose in any tournament he enters because hes winning on the much tougher regular tour. Scary thought for them senior tour bowlers.

Yep, he'll dominate 2 tours at the same time.

He'll probably be known as the "Senior Ringer".

You can almost say that about anyone who ends up in second place.  Many times that same thing has happened to WRW.  I watch the Dick Weber open a couple years ago and Patrick Allen caught several breaks which gave him the win against WRW.

That's just part of the game.  Oneill will get his title sometime soon.  I noticed he's changed his game a bit.  Seems to me that he's not cranking the ball like he used to.  I was also surprised to see him playing the lanes straighter than LaCaze.

When all else fails, hard and straight is the way to play. I found that out the hard way when I was struggling, took me til the 6th frame of my last game in league 2 weeks ago. When off the sheet from the 6th frame on that game to end the day

Yes, Walter Ray is certainly a talented bowler.  Unfortunately, he's a complete jerk the rest of the time.  If you've never met the man, you can't really understand that statement, but whenever you see him in person, his true self becomes apparent.  This is a man who has let his success get to his head such that everyone is completely beneath him.

Talented, yes.  Jerk, without a doubt.

Precisely. He's the Barry Bonds of bowling. Gotta respect the talent (and Bonds had it pre-steroids, so don't argue my analogy on that alone), but they are, for lack of a better word, a**holes. I've heard way too many WRW horror stories for me to root for the guy, regardless of how great he is.

I have two Walter Ray stories:
1. Bowling Balls(this story comes from a PBA member who knows Walter Ray) - when under contract to Ebonite, Walter Ray along with other staffers was given several balls to test. Afterwards, after hearing the usual "no backend", "boat anchor", "hooks at my feet", etc. Walter says "Got'em all to work".
2. Personality - three years ago I thought it would be neat to get one of my kids(who is a fan) an autographed picture for Christmas. I called the # on the die hard website to order the picture and to my surprise Paige's mother answered. She said she would Fedex the picture to Walter Ray and have him Fedex it to my house. They did it, he personalized it and it cost me $5. This doesn't sound like the same person many of you claimed to have run into.
