WEATHER QUESTION-Quick!
« on: January 20, 2005, 12:24:43 AM »
Hey all....

I bowl tonight, and go from work to bowling. I usually have about an hour to kill before we start warm-ups, however, my equipment is in the trunk of my car and it's only 20 degrees here today.  Is that hour or so enough to bring them slowly to room temperature, or should I bring them inside when I go to lunch?

Thanks............

For heaven's sake, bring 'em in!  Seriously though, I have seen many bowling balls crack from cold temps.  Better to be safe than sorry.

Better bring them inside, when you get to work, leave them there until you got to the lanes. Our center just replaced a ball that had been in a house locker for 18 months, cracked completely around the ball and to the core. Locker was located against the outside end wall of the house.

If it was at least above freezing, I'd say that hour would be plenty of time, but since it's only 20 degrees, I'm gonna side with sir bowl a lot and say bring them in.  Chances are they'd be fine, but why take the chance when that much money is involved?

ok guys, thanks,....I'll go get them in a minute or 2....

I always heard that cold wasn't good, but it was the EXTREME changes that were worse.....so that's why I thought that by giving them an hour or so to warm up slowly would be ok.........

thanks..........

anyone else?

I guess thats another reason I buy Lane#1, my balls probably stay in back of my Jeep around 360-365 days or so a year hot/cold and I have never had one crack period.  I have also had other balls that haven't cracked from various companys guess I am just lucky though.

I think you are right that an extreme cold-warm temp change would be bad. Assuming you or someone had accidentally left your stuff in the car, I would take it out, and leave the balls to set out at room temperature and wait the hour or 2 before it felt warm to the touch again.  I would not run hot water or even warm water over the ball to get the ball warm again.

If you were in a situation where you absolutely had to keep your stuff in the car during some bitter cold, I would get a bunch of blankets or something to insulate, and wrap them around your bowling bag.  This should keep most of the extreme cold from getting thru, and should lessen the time it takes to get them to room temperature.

OK, this was about the hardest post I have ever typed.  Every sentence I had to keep re-editing because it just came out wrong.  My mind is gone today
