Weber Cup
« on: April 22, 2009, 06:41:37 AM »
Does anybody know how the players are selected to be part of Team USA for the Weber Cup? Although Team USA won in 2008, some of the players on that team were not really the best bowlers of recent years.

As far as I'm aware, both teams are picked by Matchroom sport who put the whole thing on so it comes down to whoever they want. I think for the american team they tend to go for players with big "marquee" appeal, seeing as most of the customers for the tv package are not in the US.

Isn't it the team captain that picks the team he wants?

Thanks Anglo Bowler, I watched the 2008 Weber Cup tournament on TV but here in Canada, they were showing the event in one-hour telecasts and the last one was shown only this week. Is this event only played in Europe or do they alternate  between Europe and the States?

It's always been played in Europe, specifically in England, as far as I'm aware (apparently the first one was in Poland). I usually try and watch it broadcast live when possible, as we don't really get any live broadcast bowling over here
