I'm not going to say all bowlers (including seniors) are like this, but most do no ball maintanance. If you have slow ball speed then its IMPERATIVE to have the pro shop keep a fresh layer of polish on your ball. Rolling hooking balls create friction and the balls of today more so. If you are a bowler that depends on length to keep your ball in the pocket then you need to make sure you have your ball in tip top condition every week. It maybe that you need a professional polish job every three weeks. It all depends on how many games you bowl a week and how much in the dry you play (refusing to play the wet and/or move inside).
We made a great friend at our lanes. He's 84, used to be PBA in the really really old days. He's almost 200 average today. His ball speed is slow, his backswing low, ball weight lower, balance not like it used to be. He had lasik so his sight is good. That's what happens. Come on, you cannot expect nothing physical to change after 50 to 60 years.
Everything changes. We could go back to rubber balls and hand sprayed lanes, but I'm sure you'd not like it. Maybe some overground ball returns so you cannot move left on the right lane or so that your trail leg hits it everytime?
