Question for thumb insert users
« on: October 03, 2006, 12:27:47 AM »
I have a question for the bowlers who use thumb inserts.  Do you feel you have a better release with an insert?  I have never used an insert, but lately I am constantly having thumb problems, mostly because of the temperature differences in the bowling alley I am in, parts of the house are cool and some are humid, its really wierd.  If I don't have a clean release I'm in trouble considering the way I throw the ball.

Why use a insert or slug to get a "consistent feel" when your gonna put tape in the hole and thats what you'll be feeling ?

Let say you ball with a slug, then you add tape in the hole...

Now lets take a bare hole and add tape in that as well...

Whats the difference ?

All your feeling is the tape in either ball, lol !

I use the thom thum system and don't put any tape in the ball. I have never liked the feel of tape and this system gives me the best release I have gotten on a ball to ball comparison. I have learned what they are made of and there is nothing harder or smoother out there. I have talked to the owner of the company many times and they come in rounds or ovals.

This thing have having to use a screw driver to change from one thumb to another is BS. So what? It takes 3 seconds to change.

Not everyone tapes both sides of the hole. I like the feel of urethane slugs with a smooth finish, and then tape the back of the hole for fit.

I find that without thumb slugs, the hole is (or quickly gets) tacky, causing me to hand up... I guess that's the nature of resin based coverstocks.  The urethane slugs give a consistant feel.  Urethane slugs are MUCH easier to work out than regular ball material..so there is an advantage if any ovals need to be made.  For me they are worth the extra $$.

I think that i will always have a thumb slug, due to the consistency for releasing the ball that i have.

That's my method as well.
