Better ball, CNV or Grand Illusion?

Which is better in everyone's opinion? Complete NV or Grand Illusion? If one is better, how do they differ?

CNV is a lot stronger in my opinion.

Neither of them takes great to surface changes...in my experience.

CNV has more backend and more continuation and the weight block is more versatile.

Personally, I'm an Ebonite guy, so I'm biased. But the CNV is easily top 3 in my list of best bowling balls ever made.

Complete NV, hands down. The NV line is the best hittng line in my opinion to come along in some time. Not an Ebonite guy, I work in a pro shop as does my bro and we own over two hundred bowling balls.We try them all, mostly research but it probably is a bit obsessive. I have had 6 of the NV series and 3 are Completes.

I would also second Rockers post. Top 5 of all time, and like I said, I own alot. Probably have used over 500 different pieces.

I have the complete and I'm trying to find a place for it in my lineup, but was offered a grand illusion as trade. I go Cell, Bite, Hy-Road, Playmaker and I'm trying to fit the CNV in somewhere (shiny or dull).

Do you use the Cell b4 the CNV? I got them both last Jan. within a week of each other and the Cell was sold three weeks later. Just saying...thought it was much more versatile.

Have thrown the Complete NV of my friends and quite honestly felt that my Grand Illusion is much more versatile for me.

I have used my Grand Illusion at OOB (2000 grit polished), 2000 grit no polish, 1000 grit with Snake oil and have found it to take surface changes very well.  For me the choice would definitely be the GI.

The difference for me was the control I get with the GI.

Well, considering these are two totally different kinds of balls, it's not really a fair comparison.  The Complete NV is more angular (a strong pearl from my understanding), while the Grand Illusion is smoother and more rolly (a medium-strength solid).  Just from the limited time I got to throw one during a Storm/Rotogrip Open House, I feel the Grand Illusion is one of the most underrated medium oil balls on the market right now.  It's very, very predictable and versatile, with above-average carry thanks to a very continuous motion.  It's got a motion very similar to the Cell, just several boards weaker and capable of handling more friction without burning up.

I agree, they are both very different balls but he asked which is better. The GI is very underrated but the CNV is the better of the two. Alot of it depends on style of bowler, conditions, lane surface and so on...I would still go with the CNV. Plus the GI is cheaper if he were to opt to have both which makes the trade unequal financially.

If you were to dull the CNV to 1000 or 2000 grit (oob for Cell and Bite) it will probably be your biggest piece. As I said, I bought the Cell about a week or two b4 I attended a ball release seminar by Ebonite for my pro shop. Went there and compared the Cell, Bite, Kinetic Energy, CNV, and Wrath D.F. CNV was bigger than the Cell and Bite for me on those conditions and it is 2000+polish so dull it woulda been even stronger. Again, that is off my hand on those conditions. Good luck.

Maybe you should tell us what you are looking for in a ball, as you look at the answers to your post, clearly if you are looking for a angular hard hooking ball then the CNV would be better, if you are looking for a good smooth arcing ball for medium oil Grand Illusion would be a much better selection IMO.

Assuming just because a ball is more angular does not always make it a better ball.
