What's Hot?
« on: July 22, 2003, 04:08:03 AM »
Wow! 2 post's in one day. Guess the kids aren't home. Anyway, back to the question. What medium oil balls are hot right now. I know this is a very general question but I haven't been keeping up with all the new stuff coming out so just thought I would send this out and see what replies I would get back.As the fall leagues draw closer I will be purchasing a new ball to try and cover all the mediums with. I usually look for consistancy, predictability, hit and able to handle fresh back ends to a little carrydown.I no, I'm going to get what type of bowler are you, what type surface do you bowl on, what do you have right now etc. and these would be all great questions, but as I said, this is just a general question to see what's working for people right now or even what you might have heard is coming out that might be worth waiting for.Thanks.

P.S.- Sorry if this is to broad a question. Just didn't know how to put in any way else. Will most likely use this as a starting point to make a decision.

Jish, although not new, my medium ball is the Silver Steak Solid..strong solid, big backend, hard arc, strong but predictable...and very shortly (tomorrow!) I'll be adding another medium ball to complement it,..the new Pure Fuel...this ball is new, and hopefully HOT !

Jish, I will have to agree with Jeffreys. The SS balls from Roto Grip are great for med oil, and great for the price.

I'm always looking at NEW balls .. and there seems to be quite a few coming out .. don't know which of the newer ones are good .. but MY MOST RECENT PURCHASE is a STORM CHARGE that seems like something you might be interested in. I've used it only a few times since my purchase but it seems to do the job well!

If you are looking in the direction of Track, try a Thrash or wait for the Triple Threat. Both are very good balls!!

How am I supposed to knock all 10 down with one ball?!?

Well you're right Jish...It does depend on your game!

In the tournaments that I bowl in I'm seeing a lot of Hot Rods on the racks.  Personally I didn't like the ball, but that's due to my style.

I would say the best balls for med oil right now are (according to my brand preferences):

Storm:  Hot Rod, Eraser Particle and Power Charge
Ebonite:  V2 Blue/Black (polished), TPC Player (soon to be released) and Savage Flip
RotoGrip:  Silver Streak Solid & Pearl and the Sonic X Solid

There are some other balls that just got discontinued and depending upon how you throw the ball there are others.  But for pure predicability and consistent reaction it's hard to beat the time tested V2!!!

If you're looking for NEW balls, for general MEDIUM conditions, I'd say:

Dyno-Thane Vendetta Black
Storm Hot Wire
Columbia Hyde     (extending into Medium-heavy)
Track Thrash      (extending into Medium-heavy)
Brunswick Bruiser

Going a little further back in time:

Ebonite V2 sanded     (extending into Medium-heavy)
Columbia Wicked B/R/T (extending into Medium-heavy)
Roto-Grip Silver Streak
Dyno-Thane Thing
AZO Blue Fire         (extending into Medium-heavy)

are probably the 5 of the best balls ever designed!
