Title: weight loss
Post by: xrayjay on November 06, 2015, 01:36:06 PM
I've lost almost 15 lbs. in 13 days - I still have 60 lbs to go.  :o (gained 105 lbs in 18 years)

I lost that firm/snug fit in my finger inserts and I'm adding tapes to the thumb. Inserts may need to be replaced soon.

My questions are....

Do spans change in length as someone gets lighter or heavier?

Also, during the process of weight loss, will it affect my physical game? I know lifting heavy weights can...

(Note: Low Cal Diet of 1200-1500 a day. No hunger headaches and I'm not hungry eating 6 times a day. Each meal or shake is between 50-300 calories. I going back to my training days when I had to make weight. My workout: walking my Doberman and bowling. No soda, No mocha, but I have to have my bourbon.)

Congrats on the weight loss.  I imagine your overall fit will change.  But incrementally not too much.  I can see retooling a couple times a year but not so often it becomes a logistical hindrance.  I would probably recommend keeping a lot of various sized inserts in the event you need a quick size adjustment.

Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks man..

I still have new turbo (just in case) inserts that didn't fit the last two years which are still in my bag. They prolly fit now.

I'll have to be aware of the physical things in my game as time goes by.

I don't think your span will change, but I do believe your thumb will need to be re-measured and probably slightly smaller inserts for the fingers.  If your overall fitness improves that should only be a positive, too.

Excellent job with the weight loss, and best to you moving forward.  I'm on the "pizza diet" and haven't lost a pound lately.  I think I need a bit more time to see if my results are conclusive though...

It's good to know about the span. Thanks guys...

over the last two years or so, my thumb hole/size went up two sizes. I'm pretty sure then, I'll have them replaced in the future.

(The NFL guys behind the mic/TV finally convince me to try Nutrisystem. This stuff works, lost another 2.5 lbs this week. and I feel great.)

That's awesome on the weight loss, congrats. Ive been meaning to lose weight for the longest time, im up 50+lbs since moving down to Texas. I have adjusted to my weight gain and my release has gotten really sloppy it feels like compared to before. But just like you, my goal is to get to about 200 and regain my bowling ability of my youth. Not only have I started watching what I eat, fast food wise, but drinking water vs soda, and walking almost every nite. As soon as I get some free time away from kids, I plan on working out more and gain some more muscle to help lose more weight faster.

BF, you can do it! Weight gain and weight lose is more in the mind than in the stomach. Just like bowling, more mental than physical.

my weight gain altered my game a lot. I've gained an 1" with my "personal number" at release hahaa. I'm very slowing getting a few things back. Mostly, it was my swing.

I lost 40 Lbs. this past off season I had to down size my grips and my Thumbs hole was huge.  I had to use a lot of tape and it felt awkward. So my ball driller talked me into the I.T. thumb holes we made a few sizes .  so if I lost more weight I would have something that would fit. I also tried the Vacu-grips and I like the Vacu-grips if I swell or if my hand is cold the grips fit.

Keep losing I am still working on more weight loss

just my .02

your .02 was worth every penny. thanks for the reply and congrats on the -40lbs.

I always wondered about those vacu-grip. Can't you drill a the bottom of the hole a tad smaller instead of buying the vise vacu-grip thing?

This is what I have done.  If I remember correctly, main finger hole was 1 size larger and then a tap in the bottom at the normal insert diameter.

The regular hole size is 31/32. For Vacu-grips, use 1-1/32 at the top and 31/32 for the bottom 1/4" or so. Some prefer to use 61/64 at the bottom.

Congratulations on your weight loss. Now keep it off!  :o When I retired I weighed 233. Started eating right and walking my dogs twice daily over a mile + too, and I'm @ 193 today and have stayed there for over 10 years. Feels very good. Now if I could only get back to my old bowling average.  :P Again, congrat's.  :D

oh it's reverse than what I had thought lol makes more sense.... so you start with the larger bit first, then full depth with the 31 bit...?

Or you can drill the entire hole 1 1/32" and glue about the front 1/3, of the grip, leaving the open space at the back.  --  JohnP

Not to be too negative, but I don't see how 15 pounds on your body could make that much difference in your fingers.  It took me much more loss to see any difference in my hands.

i have lost 30 pounds and had to have everything re done. Now i feel better and throw the ball slightly different, wish i would have done this a few years ago as my carry is better now. My fingers and thumb change on my weight, just my input.

I know everyone's different before I retired I weighted 251 after a while I went up to 267 my thumb and fingers holes were to small. Lost 22 pounds went back to smaller holes gained 7 pounds back had to make adjustment only 1/64 on my thumb.

No worries.......

15lbs is a lot. I went a pants size down. If it was someone else, their size won't change with 15lbs drop. My extremities were swollen from my high sodium diet - island food is just so good but bad for you. I'd wake up with swollen ankles and hands. A lot of my weight loss was water weight. My body retained a lot of fluid, but when I went to a low sodium low sugar diet, I lost a lot of water weight.

Where am I ????........the Jenny Craig forum!  I am happy for anyone who is trying hard to be healthier, but when I start reading about someone's favorite beverage on a bowling forum......where even the Misc. section is suppose to be bowling related, I have to ask why?

why?? cause the Non-Misc was removed.

Must have been a reason why it was removed.  The Misc. section is for bowling related subject matter, not reading about someone liking Dr. Pepper/Jack Daniels!

You don't like it, just ignore the post and if you like, ignore me too. I started the post and didn't hijack it. You remind of a this PC generation that are pussifiying America. After being here for over 10 years on this forum, I think I know what's the norm.

Likewise, if I read something that doesn't interest me, I move on - bowling or non bowling related. so, have a drink, grab your boys, and enjoy life and don't worry about this post. That's the moderators job..

Sorry, but your rant did not impress me. Go have your Dr. Pepper/Jack Daniels
and grab your own boys.  I'm sure they miss you.
NOW....back to the bowling related subject matter in the Misc. section.  Have a nice day!

Me ranting? lol you're the one hijacking and the only one ranting on this thread. lol You think I'm here to impress you? lol really. Life is tough, but it tougher when you're around stupid.

NOW..... just like BR OG's before me, this site isn't what it used to be. It's time to move on...

Please try to understand, I joined BR for bowling information that can and does help me improve my game.  I praised your efforts and your weight reduction as it relates to it's effect on your body and your bowling, but then going on about one's favorite beverage has nothing to do with bowling.  I can get that information elsewhere.
We can agree to disagree, but when you answer by referring or implying your around stupid (me), then yes perhaps like you stated its time to move on.

Bowlaholic, your making this seem like facebook. Its his thread and if you don't like where its going or what is being discussed, move to another topic/subject. Just hit the back button and find something else to read and hijack. Sooner or later the moderators will get enough complaints to just completely delete your account.

I can't remember the last time I had a serious bowling discussion with someone without having some interjection of normal discussion.  Many on this forum have known each other for 10+ years.  Many are friends who bowl together, have bowled together or would like to bowl together.  With the removal of the Non Misc forum, there is no other outlet for friends to discuss non bowling items.  So the occasional interjection of normal discussion in the middle of a thread is what is left.

The only reason I mention Diet DP was that it can make your hand and finger swell while bowling it was even discussed in my class when I had to go to PBA school that was required back in the 90's.

I get it!  I'm a new kid on the block who has rocked the boat (asked questions) like "Why is there non-bowling discussion taking place in a section titled by BR "Misc. for Bowling related items".  Answer...because the non-misc. section was taken away.  (Me) OK, but there must have been a reason it was taken away?
Answer..... Go "grab your boys" & chill out!  (Me) I'm not impressed with that response.
Answer....bottom line, go away stupid!
Like I said I get it. Loud & Clear!
