Comment to BR moderators

BR Mods,

It seems that there has been a lack on your part in keeping these forums a "Family Friendly Site" as you advertise it.  There have been a few people on here that lack maturity and honestly, make this board an annoying place to visit.  I know we have ignore lists and such, but isn't there a way to block an IP address all in all so that people don't just keep making new User ID's after you delete them?  Maybe it would be better if a lot of the more well rounded and respected users on this forum had admin priviledges.  I know if I were one, I wouldn't tolerate a lot of the behavior that's displayed on these boards.  Please take the time to think about it.  Sooner or later, the success of this site will diminish due to people not wanting to put up with childish behavior.

P.S.  Im just waiting for SirHooksAlot or one of his other aliases to say something now.

I don't think it's that big of a deal.  It's not that hard to ignore people.  However, if you are going to ban someone it may be better to ban someone by IP or something that way they can't keep coming back all the time.

Boy, This is like Deja-Vu.

Wasn't it about 4 or 5 months ago that we went through all of this???

The site got somewhat cleaned up, but now it's slipping backwards again.

While I agree with the principle of this topic, who would decide who stays or goes? If put into the hands of the people of this site, someone can kick someone off because they don't like what they say, or they disagree with someone a little too firmly. After having some "discussions" with some others on this site, I might have fallen prey to this if some people had their way. About a week later I received an apology and gave them an overdue one back. A chance I might not have had if this comes to bear. While I agree there seems a need for more vigorous moderation, putting that into the hands of the people is not the solution. Somewhere in the middle there must be a compromise.

The instance you refer to would not get you banned cause you were already an established member and not considered to be a troll. There are other on here that have nothing useful to contribute and just get a kick out of being an imbecile.
Not to mention a proper admin/mod would give a stern warning before giving you the boot and you seem inteligents enough to know when enough is enough.

Being a long-time, established, positively contributing member of this site has never, nor will it ever have anything to do with the owner's decision to ban a user.  Making a disparaging post while the owner is looking is the sole criterion.

yep me too, a memeber since 1999 and the high powered admin deleted me for something i did not post.  now that being said, websites such as this can be modded by users, but the last time this site tried this they kept them secret, I dont agree with that but until the admin sees fit to show himself/herself there will be no policing per se of this site.  mind you just my opinion

These cycles are like clockwork, and have been happening for a long time.

We'll get more and more posts complaining about the trolls, followed by posts suggesting that we go to this, that, or the the other latest and greatest website that is much better than this one, and never allows trolls.  Then, you go to that other website, and find it's the same people that are here, having a lovefest for their new website and slammin' BR.

The trolls come and go.  The other websites come and go.  I just stay here, ignoring the latest trolls and reading the posts of the other posters.

Life goes on.

Good points, Rick.

I'd also just say: DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS! Ignore them. BR.com is a useful place, and being open to anyone (which is, IMHO a very good point about it) just takes its toll. But the trolls that come every now and then are just singular "subjects" - I do not think that an open moderation (like a yellow/red card" in soccer) would even work on them. It is up to any user and any user's reponsibility to make this a place worthwhile. Do not blame moderators, take action yourself.

Well said Rick and I did go over to one of the other sites and got so disgusted with it I had them deactivate my user name.  This is home, take the good with the bad.

I sincerely don't mind adding users to my ignore list from time to time.  I'm sure I'm on a few ignore lists, too.  C'est la vie.  "La vie."  I go everywhere, but don't necessarily post everywhere. It's probably overdue for another round of arbitrary deletions and bannings.  (Just don't correct mods if they misspell and you're pretty safe.)
