How about a singles league no teams..
« on: August 30, 2004, 02:47:31 PM »
Just wondered how a singles league would be. No teams,no partners, just you every man for himself. Not have to worry about being a bowler short or if they going to show up or pay .
Ive seen just one it was a long oil, scratch summer league. Four games (or was it 6) move a pair of lanes after each game.
they had a waiting list to get on it, would have liked to try it but it was a long drive across the county.

Saw one doubles league once also.

We had a singles league years ago when I was in the military.  It’s really hard for most guys to make it every week with all the additional duties required.

Bear in mind this was on base where linage was cheap at the time ($.30 a ganme).

$10 league fees,

$.90 lineage
$.10 Secry salary

$1 x participant each week hi game, each game
$.50 x participant 2d place hi game, each game
$.25 x particpant 3rd place hi game each week

$1 x participant hi series each week
$.50 x participant 2d hi series each week.
$.25 x participant 3rd hi series each week

$2 x participant  each week EOY tournament paid out 1:3, must have had 21 games in during the year.

Space available for lanes, seniority first, IE, all last years entrants of 21 games got first choice to bowl, if lanes still available, most games so far during the year.  New bowlers only if lane is available.

24 lane house, usually had a full house every Sat afternoon.

If you have a hot nite, your $10 investment could turn into $480 each week, not to mention the end of the year tournament where we normally had a $7,000 prize fund to win.

Basically, it was just a rolling pot game, guys could come and bowl as often/less as they wanted, just had to make sure they had the 21 games in to qualify for the year end.  Miss too many weeks though and you may lose your seniority and get shut out of the weekly guarantee to bowl.

Srk,

I will have to run that buy my wife. We had a scratch singles league over
the summer and the house she runs, but the turn out wasn't very good. I think
it might have been because the money wasn't that great, but your deal sounds
pretty good.

I don't really play cards and I am not 79, but it fits together somehow.

there is an interesting article on starting on page 40 of the lastest issue of american bowler quarterly about a handicapped singles league.  i am trying to talk the general manager of the house that i bowl at into trying something similar, perhaps to start january 05.
