Well, the carry fairy sat on my shoulder tonight!
« on: September 18, 2003, 10:24:29 AM »
I've been whining for the last couple weeks about carry.
I tried something different tonight - I backed waaay off the ball, coming out of it pretty much on the side.

280-289-242 - 811!!! The first SANCTIONED one!!!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!

I'll quit whining now. At least for a while.

mumzie,

Great Bowling!  That is an accomplishment most bowlers dream about, but will never achieve.  You had to be doing a lot of things right.  Keep it up.

See …    that dreaming about bowling like Robert Smith paid off. And remember winning never gets old.   Good shooting.

I’m like Bob on this. I’ve shot 800 but the whole concept seems foreign, to carry that well and the frames where you don’t strike tend to come a times that doesn’t hurt your score as much.

Lol, I know practice doesn't count, but just getting the number is a little odd like Pinbuster and Bob say.  I mean, those kinds of scores require at least 9 or 10 strikes per GAME.  And we're talking in big strings too.  It almost requires you to stick a big game in there too, cause odds are you aren't going to go 268-266-269 or something.  And LOL Superman, 300-300-199?  Hehe.  Or it was a four game set, and you had a 300 and three really bad games . .  You've got an honor game coming your way, mumzie.  Had a buddy get an 805 on Monday, then turns around on Wednesday at a different house and shoot 299-795.  Keep it going!

HAH!  I don't know ANYBODY now!

Being in adult leagues teaches you many things.

1.  You're not on top anymore, but there are a lot more people that suck worse than you do now.

2.  The myth about the youths having an easier shot is NOT TRUE.  I'd have an entire ring collection if it was.

3.  Drunk adults are a lot funnier than drunk youths.

To answer the question about what I tried from the suggestions on the "lack of carry" thread...
I changed hand position. I had thought I needed to get more aggressive, so I tried that wednesday night with no success. Last night, after thinking about it, I went to a way less aggressive hand position.
Also - I watched my elbow closely for a "locking" on the upswing - didn't happen but late in the 3rd game.
And, last but not least, I used my shoe brush a lot more than normal - I had the feeling earlier that some shots were more slippery than others, but I wasn't sure. But, seeing as how I didn't fall out of a single shot last night, I believe the brush helped.

Those are the things I put to work from your suggestions. Items 2 and 3 I would NEVER have looked for if left on my own. So THANKS, folks!!!

Hampster,

Oddly enough, my 800 series consisted of games of 264, 268, 268. So it can be done like that!  Man, I'd love to have had a "268 TRIPLICATE" patch!!!

Great shooting Mumzie!  Hope this series was for the Scratch doubles.  Give JohnF & Coach Tommy a run for the money.

However a few months back there was a post about who would get the next 900.  Believe you posted you'd probably never even hit an 8.  You were wrong once, might just be the first woman trifecta.  Hope so.
