Wendy Macpherson leaves Columbia 300 for Storm
« on: July 24, 2013, 12:49:35 AM »
EBI has seen it's women's staff drop in count the past few years.  First was the major announcement of Leanne Hulsenberg joining Storm after throwing Ebonite since the mid-1980's.  Then, Liz Johnson rejoined Storm after a short stint throwing all 4 EBI brands.  Of course, Kelly Kulick then bolted Ebonite and joined Storm.  Earlier last week, I posted how Shannon Pluhowsky joined Roto Grip.

Now, longtime Columbia 300 staff member Wendy Macpherson has decided to leave and is now with Storm.  She had been throwing Columbia 300 since the early 2000's.

She made the announcement on her own website:

If you want to see Kelly Kulick, Shannon Pluhowsky, and Wendy Macpherson throwing Storm and Roto Grip, check out Day 2 of the US Open highlights here.

So with this announcement, Storm has another powerhouse woman bowler on it's staff.   Even more than that, it makes me wonder what is happening inside EBI that a lot of their women staffers have left over the past few years...

I enjoyed watching the womens tour but it no longer exist. I dont blame anyone for dropping them because at this point they are no longer the sellers they were back when the PWBA was around. Not many people care what threy are throwing or staff changes because their exposure is so small.

We all no how great todays equipment looks when your bowling on dusty lanes in Reno.

I just have to question how Storm can afford to sign all these bowlers. I know that Storm/Roto sell a lot of balls, but enough to pay for all these contracts?
Still, you gotta admire them for being aggressive and signing the top bowlers!

I agree, I know Storm is top dog right now, but are they really selling so many balls to need or even want this many bowlers? My secondary question to that is are some of these bowlers moving strictly for the equipment, and not really getting paid all that much?

My other thought though is did Columbia really lose that much with her leaving? If it was Barnes it would be a huge deal, with her though its more like, and? I can't but help feeling Columbia is probably better off financially by shedding her contract.

Really makes me wonder if a ton of these moves aren't EBI basically letting everyone go who may not exactly be increasing their exposure all that much anyways, and then waiting to spend bigger money on someone that will ( like a Barnes, Duke, or Weber will)

Don't assume these contracts are the same as the mens. Many may be nothing more then free equipment and other gear with no money paid other wise. Unless for promotional purposes such as ball videos or demos ect. I'd be curious to see what is really in the contract besides equipment.

I imagine the contracts are mostly for equipment.  They probably get a bonus for making a televised show, but for the women there is not much opportunity for that.  I am sure that Storm is not breaking the bank on most of these contracts.

It's looks like Wendy is wearing a Mongoose wrist brace in the youtube. I'm not 100% sure because of the camera angle, but I'm fairly certain. If so, how is that allowed in a PBA event?

Women's US Open is not a PBA event.

In this day and age, with the speed equipment is released...very few is due to the pro bowlers that use it...the PBA telecasts are less relevant than ever.

My argument is you would have better exposure for your money not being a PBA sponsor but paying to run commercials during PBA telecast. They are desperate for commercial sponsors and that is a guaranteed spot to show your product every week.

The issue with that is the dollars it costs in production of a commercial...

Even if they use the footage and some editing from the videos they post online? Graphics and all of that are there just throw down some audio commentary and ball action video and there is your 30sec ad.

Fees for being a full PBA sponsor are $250K a year? (per product line)
