Not Lift (bad) but left to right release (good)
« on: December 29, 2009, 06:09:44 AM »
I was reading the excellent Mo Pinel question and answer sessions on BBE and learned something new that shocked me.  This was the first bit of information that opened my eyes:

In today's environment, down and in stands for down the drain and in the toilet most of the time.

Wow...isn't Straighter Greater??  That piqued my attention...

Then this one came:

Basically, COCK, but don't cup, your wrist to solve the problem. Your fingers must go more left to right across the ball, not up the ball.

THE WORD LIFT SET BOWLING BACK 30 YEARS!

Whoa.....that hit me hard....had to think tons on that one...

Then today went to a session with my coach and worked on this...

Cocked.....not cupped....fingers left.....and moving right like the motion of throwing a frisbee or spiriling a football underhand...not being behind the ball...

WOW!!!!

Call me Educated!  Couldn't believe how the change really gave me revs, power, and the ability to really use the lane, the oil, where to hit the dry and to get that power down the lane with the great entry angle and still get the 3 rolls before the pocket. Learned to cock the wrist left and right to change tilt and rotation....

Know I see why left to right....banging the lane as opposed to open the lane does produce so much power where I need it and how to really control the back end of the lane even if I am playing bigger release angles.

Plus an added bonus...it is almost impossible to not keep your elbow in and not get it away from your body....a huge added bonus!

Will be out again tomorrow with the coach working on it more!  Knew that damn Knee Drill would come to something!!!

WOW!!!!

my coach told me that all your power is in your shoulder not in the rest of your arm. and the way to truly achieve power is to go from left to right quicker.

i think i agree that down and in usually doesnt work, but learning to play the lanes straight can be a huge advantage.

i think people mean down and in doesnt work on house shots unless you have 1/2 a rev. which is true
