Wet/dry question for certain lane conditions...
« on: February 10, 2004, 12:01:17 PM »
I was confused this evening because I felt that there was more oil out on the lanes than usual for my Tuesday night league (the guy lays out a short oil 25 ft. buffed to 35 ft pattern, wetter outside and drier inside) yet my Barbed Wire polished had a smoother roll and reaction than my Vortex II Particle which didn't seem to have much bite by the backends.

I feel like from week to week this home house shot is driving me nuts- as I will warm up on a pair, find a great shot and then when we go to the lanes we are scheduled to bowl on, that shot is not even close to what I had on the warm up pair.

And it's tougher because I'm the only lefty in the league. We were bowling a position round and watched the team we were bowling against struggle game one, line in for game two as the lanes opened up a little and then game three couldn't make the right carrydown adjustments. Meanwhile I went from my particle ball around 15-12 slight swing and mix up strikes with 6 pins, 6-10 and various splits (4-6, 6-8, 7-9) to switching to my Barbed Wire the final game playing straight up 7 or 8 board and throwing a decent 183 (minus the pocket 7-9 and pocket 7-10 I left in frames 5 and 6).

Any suggestions to help conquer this condition would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah- the guy only strips the backends every two weeks.

Matt

Hi Matt,

Based on what you described, the reverse is not an easy shot to hit.   I'm assuming if you miss left, the ball hangs and if you tug, it'll go high or brooklyn.  One way to help overpower the oil line some is to get a stronger particle ball that skids further and has some more backend then the V2(likes to roll early).  This may allow you some more room to the left and with better finishing power as well.  The Track Phenom Unleashed or Animal would fit into this category very well.  If you want other suggestions, pls feel free to contact me directly and I'll try and help you out.  Hope this helps...
