Anybody try rev pitch on fingers?
« on: October 15, 2004, 08:56:06 AM »
I was wondering if anybody tried rev pitch on fingers. I thought I may try it cause I'm bowling bad and I know it must be the ball fault.

Seriously has anybody gone to reverse on fingers?

I recently went from 0 pitch to 1/4 reverse (away) on my fingers. I also got rid of the grips and went back to plain holes. I was constantly cutting/splitting in my callouses where the edge of the grip meets the finger. Haven't had a problem since. At the same time I changed that I went back to my "old" pitch of 1/8 reverse on the thumb. I let an idiot talk me into 3/8 reverse and a slightly longer span a couple of years ago. After developing some forearm tendonitis, and the split finger callouses, I realized that something needed changing. Back to the past. John Ohanesian laid my grip out around 25 years ago, and he must have known what he was doing, because no matter what else I try, the "old" grip is still the best by far.

a lot of people use a little reverse to help in lift,...some of the inserts come with rev already in them,...but be careful,..you may need to shorten your span to avoid hurting your hand or fingers,..jim

Wouldn't that be forward pitch?

After experiencing some progressively worse pain in my ring finger during and after bowling, I learned that as we get older, our joints don't always work "like they used to".  In short, a reverse (away from grip center) pitch on the ring finger fixed the problem and allowed me to bowl pain free.

johns811 -- Reverse pitch should be used in the fingers if the joints are not completely (90 degrees) flexible.  In that case, you will actually see an increase in revs.  Not to mention a decrease, to zero, in pain.  --  JohnP

My joints are very flexible but I have reverse in the fingers with perfect oval grips. I HATE forward pitch in the fingers. Makes me hang in the ball and burns the crap out of my fingertips.

I have used as much as 1" reverse with my fingers before.  Currently using .700 with Vacu Style Grips.  I did this to get a little more roll on the ball, trying to come up the back more.  My ring finger hurts if I use less than 3/8 reverse, this finger is pretty stiff.
