What a Difference!
« on: July 19, 2003, 05:37:30 AM »
Last weekend I bowled CA Women's State team even at my home center.  We had 3rd squad, 7PM.  The temperature had been somewhere in the 100 degree neighborhood with plenty of humidity.  They oiled just before our squad, no stripping, just flatten out the left over oil from the 2 prior squads and a layer over that.  We had the luck of drawing the lanes by the back door.  Personally I have never seen so many 5 pin and 5 pin combinations for pocket hits. The high game on the pair was by my teammate, a 180 and I think there was a 176 by one of the ladies on the other team.  My team series me, 438 bowler 2 389, #3 401, and anchor 461.
This was the home center for our team

Today we bowled 1st squad at the doubles/singles center.  I haven't bowled there in over a year.  My teammates, while they struggled they all did better than last week.  I personally had my career high series in singles.  Doubles I shot 188+225+181=594 with the Lane#1 Pearl Carbide Bomb.  Singles we moved one pair to the left and shot 201+235+253=689 with the Hammer Vicious Pearl I got in NC.  An open in the 6th cost me my first 700, but I am extremely happy with the 689.  It is currently tied for 2nd in A Division.

Okay, what was the difference?  We had fresh oil.  Being a lefty, I had fresh oil for the doubles also.  There were no lefties in the group that bowled singles there.  The temperature was also not a factor, since the doors are no where near the lanes and the A/C was functioning.

Sorry if I am bragging, I am just amazed at what a difference a week and a center made.  I expected to struggle at Pick Wick and do well at Mission Hills, since it is my home center.  But then that's life in the bowling world

Yhanks Sawbones and it would be interesting to track the scores by squad.  I had worked the 600 Club table during the 1 PM and 4 PM squads.  Unfortunately you can't choose squads, only the days you are able to bowl

There were 20 teams and I believe there was only one 200 game during the 1st squad.  But then we had only one entry into the 600 Club tourney and 500 Club had 20 entries.  So it may have been lower average bowlers.

4 PM was another 20 teams and we had 2 entries for 600 Club.  There were about 6 or 7 200s shot.

Our squad had 8 600 Club entries and there were 14 teams total.  I believe we had about 4 200s shot.  Most were on the lanes towards the center of the house.

BTW I have no intention of leaving this board.  I may also post/read other boards, but this is home

Sawbones  Oops, needless to say I was still on cloud nine yesterday and the old brain wasn't completely working.  I sure hope it holds.  Next weekend is the end, so I'll know soon enough.

Shermdog, anything is possible, but I felt I was coming out of the ball clean both weekends.  I just could not make the adjustment to get the ball through the pocket consistently. I'm a lefty and we don't know how to adjust  Just ask SrKegler.

But seriously, I did talk to my coach about it.  He said the only way to play that condition is to slow the ball way down and give it a chance to change directions.  I jokingly told him I know how to play it, put all my equipment away and say later

The Big Cheese, the deskman said they would have needed an hour between 2nd and 3rd squad to strip and oil.  He also told me that the beginning of the tourney, April, May, and early June they didn't have a 7PM squad so the issue wasn't raised.  The house wanted to leave the lanes alone, tournament director said they needed to be oiled.  TD wins, bowlers lose  It's cool, another learning experience!
