Crap. I'm a "spinner"
« on: March 10, 2005, 03:19:19 AM »
So, I'm getting my new ball laid out and the guy drilling my ball takes a look at the track marks and says "your a spinner." So, I have the guy drill the ball "straight up" with the pin in the middle so I can work from there.  If I'm not throwing a proper hook, why drill it for maximum hook, yes? What do I need to do to change it? I know spinning is a very poor technique to have and I'm probably losing a lot of my shot because of this poor habit I've developed. I don't use a wrist guard and I may be cranking my wrist/cupping the ball more than I need to. Any advice?

Until you "fix" your release (if you intend to), make sure to drill your ball based on your current PAP.  Where the pin is in relation to the finger holes is irrelevant.  A high tracker and a spinner's ball both drilled 4x4 will look totally different.

Spinning or topping the ball is usually caused by trying to make the ball hook.  You come the whole way around the ball and your follow through usually comes across your body.  Look at the pictures in the link I provided to see where your hand should be during the release.

Yes - I can honestly say I force the ball to hook. You are correct in that department, Strider.  On the link, what section(s) should I refer to? Learning new releases?  Or is my "spin" something I can learn to work?

I am what is known as a high tracker spinner 5 1/2 over 1 inch up, i come around the side of the ball but still have about 10 degrees of tilt. I stink on fried heads and flooded lanes and would like to find out what drill patterns would work best on these patterns for me ???

I actually switched to oval fingertips with my new ball and that's even made a bit of difference, too, for some reason. Thank you everyone for the advice.
