Question for bowlers over 50...

I just bought an item on eBay, that I have been trying to locate for over 30 years. The item is a Brunswick Black Beauty promotional ball. It is has the signatures of the following bowlers on it: Bill Lillard, Don Carter, Joe Wilman (one of my all-time favs), Tom Hennessey, Buzz Fazio, Steve Nagy, Buddy Bomar (my coach), Marion Ladewig, and ...
a bowler I never heard of: Merle Matthias.

Anyone ever heard of him? Any info, where he was from, etc.

Out of curiosity - is it the little bank on a stand?

It's the little 4" bank on the stand.
I've seen a few through the years, but they all had cracks.
This one is in pretty good shape.
Any idea who Merle Matthias is? I posted on PBA.com...Someone there will know, I hope.
