SST8's, STILL Can't Slide!! Help!
« on: November 27, 2008, 01:37:59 AM »
A local center got flooded out over the summer, so they installed all new sythetics. Now, I've bowled on countless synthetic lanes/approaches and while they are usually a little tougher to slide on, I dont really have a problem. This place is just terrible though, a lot of guys are having trouble.

My problem is my heel. I have the red leather heel from Dexter which is the most sliding heel they offer, and I'm still having issues. I bowl here two days a week, and it has my leg hurting so damn bad...

Not sure what to do, I thought about cutting up one of the slide soles and glueing it on my heel, but if there is a better option I'd rather not.

Any help is appeciated guys... Thanks.

Brian sounds like he knows exactly what the problem is. He needs help with the solution, not alternative causes. If I had some idea, I'd offer. Sorry, Brian.

This is an interesting subject since I do a lot of the R&D for SLSM Designs / Bowlers Slide Sock.  We have customers that wear size 15 shoes and weigh over 350 pounds.  We custom make slide socks to help them.  In most cases the slide sole bottom is extended over the front edge of the heel be about a half inch.  This development came from experimenting with teflon on the leading edge of the heel.  We are testing now with interchangeable heels and I have found I like the ripple heel on my Dynaroos.  The heel on my Etonic ESL Classics is fine but the Dynaroos are a different animal.  The same would be with many other shoes.  I wear a green snake skin Encore I Bowlers Slide Sock on the Etonics and a Combat model Premier I on the Dynaroos.  The slide is now very close to the same with both shoes.  The heel selection did make a difference.

This may sound a bit stupid, but trust me when I say it's a very viable solution. If I am having a hard time sliding and don't want to mess up a perfectly good heel or load up on Easy Slide and cause everyone else on the pair to fall all over the place, I'll seek out some dirt and hair and dust. Find a dirty spot on the floor (where a wall meets the floor, under the chairs, etc.) and rub the heel in all the dirt and grime. If you can grind a bit of poo into the heel, it'll slide a lot more. Then when you go to another house, just bust out a wire brush and clean up the heel. Like I said, I know it sounds dumb, but it definitely is an easy solution to your problem.
