what are the odds of bowling centers going no smoking?
« on: January 23, 2006, 12:58:24 PM »
i love bowling but damn, i walk out of there after 3 games and i have to do 2 things 1)wash my hands and 2) take a shower! i reek of smoke and not only that, i have a 5yr old that likes to go but damn im thinking of leaving her home for her own good! drinking is ok i guess because it doesnt effect me, you want to suck down budweiser and scream and shout fine, but put out those damned ciggarettes before i gag and then puke. anyone else agree with me? are there any centers that are doing this yet?
lets face it... this isnt deadlifting or picking up women.. its BOWLING!!!! Stop acting tough when you roll 4 strikes in a row!!!

Ambushed:

There was a smoking ban in PG County that went into effect January 8th I believe so there is no smoking in bowling centers anymore even if they have designated enclosed rooms.  Riverdale, Capital Plaza and Laurel has signs banning smoking.

Now I wish NOVA would do the same but I doubt that would ever happen.

There's a smoking ban up for consideration here in Starkville.  I don't know if it's passed yet, but the bowling alley here has never allowed smoking.  There are three attached bars that do, but unless you go through the doors, you won't smell it.  It's really one of the best things about this house.

Every other house I've been to does allow smoking, if not in the pit then in the back area.  I don't like it, but at least I'm only at those houses once in a blue moon.

achappy, I know that you can still smoke in the bar in AMF Waldorf, so maybe PG has a stiffer smoking ban that the rest of the state.  And I agree with you about NOVA, I really hate to bowl in the centers there because of the smoke.

Currently the centers in Windsor Ontario have to have smoking rooms.
As of May 06 there will be no smoking in any public area and you will have to go outside to smoke.

It did affect the houses a little here in NY. They lost some revenue because of it but they probably added years to their own health to make up for it. I personally couldn't stand it. Let the social leppers go outside in the cold for their fix.

I wish smoking would be banned around her, too. In many public places it already has been banned, but not in private institutions like bowling lanes

There has been a public ban in East Lansing for quite a few years now.  But I think the times are going to be-a-chang'n slowly statewide because of our dependency on the cigarette tax revenue.

The AG has even found smokers who purchase on-line and hit them with a retroactive tax bill.

I got so tired of trying to find a place TO smoke in CA so I finally quit after 30 years. OK, it was that and that whole cancer thingy too!!

Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep buying!!

That, and at $3 a pack, say 5 days a week, you can now put all that green towards new equipment!

Indy is trying to get their smoking ban in full effect by March - includes Bowling Alleys, but I think they will still be allowed to smoke if they go in the lounge to do it.

On Edit:  I'm glad too.  My truck stinks for days after I get home from bowling.  In the winter it's worse since it's too cold to open it up and air her out while I'm going down the road.

One of the guys on our opponents team last week bought a pack at the center.  It cost him $7!!  And to top it off...they didn't even have the brand he normally smokes

The Portland metro area of Oregon has had the smoking ban for a long time. It just went statewide last year I think.
Pierce County (Tacoma) in Washington went smoke free last year. It was delightful to go up there for a tournament and NOT stink like smoke for a change. The rest of Washington State went smoke free the first of this year. I was up there for a tournament last weekend, and it was WONDERFUL!!!

I'm glad there's no smoking at the houses in my town. I can wear good coats without ruining them with funk. I don't mind the smoke, but I'd prefer not having it.
