i love bowling but damn, i walk out of there after 3 games and i have to do 2 things 1)wash my hands and 2) take a shower! i reek of smoke and not only that, i have a 5yr old that likes to go but damn im thinking of leaving her home for her own good! drinking is ok i guess because it doesnt effect me, you want to suck down budweiser and scream and shout fine, but put out those damned ciggarettes before i gag and then puke. anyone else agree with me? are there any centers that are doing this yet?

St. Joseph County in Indiana just passed a smoking ban in all public areas but seperated bars by themselves. All bowlers around me are going to have to chew or eat sunflower seeds...

well people smoke at our table and every table accross the 52 lane house. ceiling fans running and the tables are only about 25 feet from the lanes so because i dont sit by the ball return i am going to catch that smoke drifts. maybe im just in the wrong house or wrong area. dayton ohio is what it is i guess!

Austin finally extended its ban to the bowling centers last fall...'bout time as far as I was concerned. There was so much smoke lingering in the air that if the clothes did not go straight into the washer as soon as I got home, I could still smell the smoke the next day. Granted, I have oft been accused of being overly attentive to smoke in the air and get sickened at the idiots two cars up at an intersection that are smoking and hanging their cigarettes out the window, but the fact remains...the fewer places we have to have the toxins associated with second-hand smoke foisted upon us the better.

All public buildings (bars included) in California have been smoke free for years. I do remember the stink (pun intended) that it raised when it was put on the ballot. Anyone who smokes must go outside so anyone needing to leave or enter the lanes must pass through a cloud of fumes.

I believe his point is that in most houses there is no smokers lounge so everyone has to put up with the smoke. Personally, I have allergies and asthma. I don't dare go into a bowling alley without my inhaler. After my Saturday night league, even my hair smells like smoke - and I am almost never on the concourse. I have team mates that smoke and its too much for them sometimes.

Smokers will complain that smoking bans impinge their rights. But what about my right to not breathe their smoke, not have my clothes smell like smoke, or worse, suffer an asthma attack because of the smoke (yes, it has happened).

My opinion - build an enclosed room and put all the smokers in there. Just think how much cleaner the bowling alleys would be without all of the ash and butts around.

It's been banned in Massachusetts I believe for 4 years. What can slow the league down amongst other things will be the people who have to go out between games for a smoke, and then forget when they are up again...

Smoking is banned in Chicago's bowling centers.
Last Thursday was the first smoke-free night.
It was great....No sore throat the next morning.
Elk Grove Village, IL is talking about going smoke-free, also.

what sucks is, 80% of the bowlers at my alley smoke.. you can still smoke in the bars, but if you go in the bar to get some drinks, your gonna have to be on the patch to quit smoking!

Smoking is banned here in the Atlanta area as well. Curtcrank made a comment about people's rights. I agree with him. People can have the right to take years off their lives, but please do not make other people who don't smoke suffer and take years off their lives as well. Smoking in centers is only going to help the decline of league bowling as we know it simply because bowlers are tired of going home smelling like a chimney. I think it is about time smokers did us a favor and respect us who do not smoke. The more you respect the people who don't smoke, the more people are going to want to continue bowling and the more leagues there are for them to bowl as well. So it becomes a win-win situation. If the govt has to get involved to help out, then so be it.
