switch to 14lbs.
« on: October 17, 2009, 09:14:20 AM »
I want to switch from 15 to 14lb. bowling equip, but do not have the money to buy a 4 ball set right away. Has anybody thrown both weights at the same time and is it hard to adjust from one to the other?I know that when I switched from 16 to 15, the 16lb ball felt really heavy if I went back to it. Thanks for any input.

I have currently been using my 15lb Shift drilled pinn under ring to start on fresher patterns.  Then switching to my 16lb Shift drilled pin over ring to slow my speed down a little & for a bit more length before breaking to pocket using pretty much the same lines.  I have no extra aches or pains.  I would seem there would be a period of adjustment for going to 14.  That's pretty light so the tendency might be like what Drrev says to over rev & also have more speed.  Maybe they would counter act each other, but it will take time to get used to it & adjust.

Due to health reasons,I too have just made the switch to 14's. For me, at least, it is very difficult to mix weights. It throws my timing off going back and forth.

No, I do not have an injury, just getting older. It seems that the general opinion is dropping down in weight will increase ball speed and add a few revs. It seems that most of the conditions in the houses I bowl at are very wet in the middle, dry outside {THS}and I have lost the ability to open up the lanes somewhat. I need to update my equipment anyway, so maybe it is time to make the switch to the lower weight.

I switched to 14 at the end of last season and at times found it very hard to be successful mixing weights. I definitely had moments I felt completely comfortable, but also times when my timing was thrown completely off. I still have issues from time to time with faster ball speed and timing and I currently don't throw any 15#ers. Everyone is different. I have talked to some people that use 16, 15, and 14 at the same time. They don't seem to have much problem.

Let me know what kind of balls you are looking for as I have bought several balls over the last 6 months and might have something in 14 that you may want to get you started. I definitely recommend switching to 14. I have not seen any difference in carry. Going down a pound gives you a little more ball control and the ability to put more on it if you need to. Just keep your feet slow as to not throw your timing off.

Good Luck.
