What are your options with conditions like this......???
« on: June 12, 2014, 01:04:01 AM »
when the heads are gone and carry down presents itself, I get lost real bad. How do you deal with this situation? What surface do you suggest?

I rarely see carry down this often, but the house had switched to ICE conditioner for their lanes. I'm not sure if this is the part of the reason why I'm seeing carry down lately.....And if this is the case, I better prepare myself for it in winter leagues.

The other key sign of carrydown is when the ball starts to push a couple feet further, but still retains an angular look when it finally moves.  I agree that burnout is more common than carrydown, but on flatter tournament patterns carrydown can be a major factor in the early transitions.  Carrydown usually manifests itself by the middle of the first game.  If you are seeing the ball stop hooking after a couple of games or more, it is probably the heads causing the rotational energy to burn off early.

From what I am reading if I'm not incorrect is that going more direct and using balls with less angular of a motion would be the best course of action to avoid being overwhelmed by these conditions?

If the heads are going, I would definitely go to urethane or a really tame resin ball and try to stay outside on a shorter pattern.  On longer patterns, I would keep moving in trying to find some head oil and would look to pearls that will hit hard without having to hook a bunch.
