14# vs 15#
« on: March 04, 2005, 01:15:49 PM »
Alright.  What's the prevailing wisdom.  Anyone still think that you can't get good carry out of a 14# ball??  I just picked up a 14# Messenger Ti Pearl from my father in law.  I normally throw 15...I'm thinking with a length drilling and shine the 14 pounder might be just right for lighter oil conditions....I'm just a tad worried about carry.  BTW I'm normally 16.25 On the Qubica machines.

I just moved from 14 to 15, and I think you can get carry out of a 14, but you have to be more accurate. I think 14s carry better from the outsides than insides. When I try to hook it it hits like a marshmallow.

I never saw any carry difference between 14 and 15.  I was throwing 15 for a while then when to 14 and carry was great, but I got to where I was putting to much on 14s and was not as accurate with them so I went back up to 15.

I've found 14 lbs. to carry very well for me. I only seem to have difficulty carrying when I get in past 4th arrow or so, but that's probably because I don't really have any skid/flip equipment, which seem to carry best for me from that angle(It might also have something to do with my lack of hand, but I prefer blaming the equipment). I personally find that 14 carries the flush-to-high hits better than the heavier stuff did, but doesn't carry the light-to-half hits quite as well. I also leave more weak pocket splits, especially if my release isn't clean.

Thanks for all the input.  I think my biggest problem is going to as slipknot said...trying to put too much on it.

The difference you'll see, it that the 14# will deflect pins more.  So chances are, light hits won't carry as well.  Though the amount that may be, I don't know.  Could be near nothing, but i thought i'd mention it.
