Just wondering what the difference is when lanes are oiled between forward oil, reverse oil, and buff, and how it could affect ball reaction. Trying to understand oil pattern graphs a little better and would appreciate any help.

Forward oil is when the lane machine applies lane conditioner on the forward pass down towards the pin deck. Reverse oil is when lane conditioner is applied when the lane machine is returning towards the foul line. Buff is when the lane machine stops feeding lane conditioner from its tank to its pads or brushes but keeps the pads or brushes in contact with the lane thus spreading the remaining lane conditioner in a film which gets thinner and thinner.

Not that I've noticed the difference myself, but as I understand the Brunswick Lane Maintenance Manual the lenth of the forward pass affects the backend the most while the length of the reverse pass affects the midlane the most.
