What ball has had more hype associated with it...
« on: January 29, 2007, 01:50:59 PM »
...than the public release of the Total NV?  Jason Couch and Patrick Allen's TV performance have been nothing short of spectacular.  It appears that every bowler that's gotten their hands into one has worked wonders with the ball.  Without the entire public having access to this ball, it may have already become the most sought-after ball in many years.  Will Big B's Fury be enough to knock the luster off of this ball's crown?  Time will tell.

Put 'em in righty's hands and we'll see John.

Notice you very rarely ever see a pro throw an NM on TV.  LOL!

You don't see the NM's on TV 'cause they don't have the luxury of missing two boards either way of one's target like yours truly.

I'm off to the doctor this Wednesday morning to see how much damage has been done to the bad wing.  Heat, mineral ice, slings, braces, and any combination of the bunch.  I'm inclined to believe that there's something out of the ordinary wrong at this point.  Cross your fingers.  At the very worst, there will a NIB Total NV to go with that No Mercy waiting for me after I heal.

Yup, and the numbers show nothing special, a medium oil ball with better than average length and slightly better than average backend, but the text indicates a phrase they do not often use: "explosive hitting power".

From what I have seen this ball tends to blow the pins up and back which will cause problems for many people and leave a lot of back row pins.

While it "should" be a great ball based on the hype and the TV showing thus far, only time will tell.

Medical update.

It was a day of good news/bad news.

Good news-my Total NV showed up.  Perfect specs.  Just as I had asked.  Kudos to bb.com for living up to their end of the bargain.  Superb service and pricing, as always.

Bad news-severe bicep tendonitis.  Therapy begins next week.  Anywhere from 2-4 weeks of continued rest and rehab.  In other words, only around a month to give the TNV a shot at the coveted crystal chalice to accompany my other two 800's for the year.  Plus, I finally gave in and had my doc take a look at an ingrown toenail and he resected the right third of my right big toe nail.  Holy balls, did that not feel good.

So, whenever I finally get the chance to put the TNV to the test, I'll have plenty of time to formulate a game plan.

Had a guy on my pair tonight throw the TNV. It was his first time throwing it off the press.. he shot 675... but considering the bowler that is impressive. It really did seem to carry some shots with some explosive power that you would not think that type of release would produce especially when you consider how deep he was. I was honestly impressed. The ball was forcing him in deep, the pattern was and as he moved the ball never lost hitting power even with his somewhat low rev rate.

All of the companies have hot streaks. Back in the late 90's, you couldn't bowl a handicap league without seeing a Danger Zone or Violet 3D Offset on the rack. In early '06 there was a One, then Big One on just about every rack. In mid 05, it was the Absolute, in early 04 it was the Ultimate Inferno. In early 03, it was the Inferno.

I am going to list some other hot balls:
Columbia Chaos and Ti-Messenger
Track Triton Heat and Contender
Storm X Factor,Eraser and Trauma
Brunwsick Purple Monster

How much hype was behind the speed zone? Everyone and their mother had one. At the time, I didn't know what was going on tour, thats why I ask. I just saw the ball everywhere I went.

I gotta say that my TNV does have great hit/carry. Reminds me alot of my Lane #1 stuff. It's a ball that seems there are endless options for cover tweak and fine tuning too.

Get well 230!

Good luck with the bicep tendonitis.....better than a bicep tendon rupture!
