2008 World Men's Championships, Thailand....
« on: August 25, 2008, 07:24:16 AM »
I havn't seen much on here about it... you guys know its on??

Well, in case you aint, it's the first year Pros are allowed, so its a bit awesome!  Team USA has Tommy Jones, Chris Barnes, Walter Ray Williams, Patrick Alan and Rhino Page on the team from the PBA, along with top amateur (technically not i guess!) Bill Hoffman... PA and Rhino already took Gold in the doubles, and both Trios teams took bronze, with Korea and Japan taking them out respectively to play for Gold, which went to Korea.

Fives event starts tomorrow for 2 days, and Singles is on after that!

Here is a link to the tournament website http://www.2008wmc.com/

And here is an interview with WRW and CB after the doubles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YD-gogb2Ef0&feature=related

You can see the results on bowingdigital as well.  It's great to have (finally)the best in the world battling it out.

Armerican placings in all events (after the doubles and the trios):-

Rhino Page is 2nd
Patrick Allen is 4th
Tommy Jones is 16th
Bill Hofman is 42nd
Chris Barnes is 43rd
Walter Ray Williams is 50th

There are still the singles, the 5 man team and the masters events to go.  They must place in the top 16 to qualify for the masters.

I've certainly been following the championships. Challenging conditions, I understand. As there should and will be. Differences between lanes in different parts of the centre, different teams breaking down the lanes differently, difficulties with the lane machines and what not.

Being Swedish, I was happy for the silver in doubles. PA and Rhino passed Tomas and Martin in the last frame.

We didn't get to the trio finals. The Korean team did very well in that event. As can be expected. Very good bowlers over there. And dead serious about their bowling, too. Quality effort by the Team USA with double bronze medals.

Norway leads the five player teams event after the first squad. They caught a break and scored really high on a good pair. At least that's what Tommy Jones said on the interview after the squad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55Pj3yHHfbQ). But that doesn't take away the fact that they bowled really well.

Looking forward to the conclusion of the team event.
