breaking in a ball thats been drilled for the first time

i bought an Archrival bowling ball from a thrift store last mth and i just got holes put in it for the first time over the weekend. i bowled in a league tonite with it and had some bad games with it. my scores were 167, 170, 150. this is not the way i wanted to start with a new ball. is there anything that could help me to break this ball in so i could can better results and better scores?

You need to provide a little more information. Was the ball over reacting or not finishing?

 

The ball maybe just needs the coverstock adjusted (sanded or polished) to fit your style and the lanes you bowl on.

What helped me in the case of an old ball, laying around more than 5 years before punching it up, was a light surface refreshment. At OOB, my Renegade was a wacky piece with poor traction and predictability. Nothing to lose I refreshed the polished surface - and suddenly the ball came alive!

Vary the rpm's never going above 5000 for the first 100 miles and make sure to change the oil after the break-in period.

i do this for a new ball:

 

lightly ruff up the surface in the track area only.  use red scratcher pad.  next pour olive oil into the ruffed up track area.  let stand for 30 min.  repeat.  next clean the ball using clean and dull.  lastly, apply a light coat of furniture polish to entire ball. 

 

doing this will activate the track area and make the ball roll like you have thrown about 15 games on it.

 

just kidding.  just wanted to add to some of the wacky stuff you hear on here.

 

you just need to get some games on the ball.
