What brand is the best in shoes now adays
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:34:07 AM »
I'm just getting back into bowling after a few year. My Dexter have seen better days. Is Dexter still one of the beat or is there better now?

The 3G Tour Ultras are the best out there, in my opinion.  I've got a pair of Dynorooz from before the Ebonite buyout of Columbia and they're still in pretty good shape.

The Tour Ultra by 900Global are the most comfortable but since Dexter owns the rights for the sole to be all velcro they are still the best. The Tour Ultra's are stiched on the outside 1/2" and after that sole wears out the shoe is done.

My vote goes to Dexter.

tour ultras by far... there are shoe cobblers out there that can fix shoes if needed. I have not seen that wear on mine and i have had them 2 plus yrs and they were used when i got them

My Ultras are the pre Dyno original ABS issue(ordered and sent direct from the manufacturer) and show no real signs of wear after 5+ years
The slide shoe has the entire sole covered in velcro and the border is sewn down over it. It doesn't appear to be much of an operation to remove the border and expose the velcro if it ever wore out. The replacement soles are cut to fit and could easily be trimmed to fit over the entire area just like Dexters.
Both are quality shoes and will do the job.Go for the one that appeals in looks and fit to you most.

I don't think you can go wrong between the SST8's and Tour Ultras. I've had both and actually prefer my dexters because of the wider foot platform, both are comfortable and offer a great range of customizability, it really depends on feel.

I have had my 8's for over a year and have no wear issues at all, and i bowl 3+ times a week every week.

the 3G tour ultra is the best bowling shoe money can buy. they're made from kangaroo leather which is far more supple and yet stronger than the competitions cowhide. when you combine their quality construction and six different soles and heels they can't be beat.

dexter sst8's, by far the best bowling shoe ive ever had on my foot. goodyear rubber soles, the best in the business. wide, stable base shoes, and it only took 1 whole game to break them in for me. they are worth every penny you pay for them.

I have a pair of Dexter sst6lx and a pair of 3G tour ultras, both are very comfortable, I tend to use the tour ultras the most, I would say however, that they are not the most durable shoes because I have had one of those goofy hinged eyelets pull out of the leather on my first pair and now one of the top eyelets have come apart on the second pair, even though this can be easily repaired by a cobbler it is a hassle and expense that I will not deal with again and will influence my future buying decisions. I have had the Dexters 3 years and the tour ultras less than 1 year each.

Etonic  1/2 the price and they are just as adjustable as the other brands less the heel (but it has never been an issue for me)

900G Tour Ultra's  I've had many pairs of dexter sst's and they simply don't last like my Ultra's do.

3G Tour Ultras.  Very comfortable, and no issues sliding.
