What can I use to make a good cleaner for my bowling balls
« on: February 21, 2025, 09:56:16 PM »
I been mixing  some awesome orange and alcohol to make a cleaner for my bowling balls. It was working good on my bowling balls for a while but it has not work good lately. I was wondering if there any other products I can use to clean my bowling balls?

Many years ago a former friend and teammate I used to know researched and found the safety data sheets (SDS) of chemical bowling ball cleaners and the vast majority of them use the same two ingredients - denatured alcohol and distilled water. Mix one part denatured alcohol with 10 parts distilled water in a spray bottle. When you mix them together it even smells similar to the bowling ball cleaners that are sold in pro shops. I've been using this ever since. After every league or tournament outing I bring my equipment home to the ball spinner and use this cleaner and it works great. Plus it's much cheaper to buy/mix the ingredients yourself and what you purchase will last much longer than the tiny bottles at the pro shop.

If that mix isn’t cutting it anymore, you could try some specialized bowling ball cleaners. Products like Motiv's Power Gel or Storm's Reacta Clean are solid options. They work great for deep cleaning and reviving that grip.

If all you are trying to do is clean any oil residue off your ball after league then a bottle of alcohol and a microfiber cloth is all you need.  If you want something that will do a better job pulling dirt and getting out belt marks; just go to CTDBowling.com.  WOW Factor is really good but also has a cleaner called Life After Death which not only deep cleans but also contains a tackifying agent to make the cover feel like it just came new in box.  Ronald Hickland is the CEO and after personally using his products; I wont use anything else.  He also has a Youtube page which he conducts ball reviews and demonstrates his products.  Being that he has a degree in Mechanical Engineering; he is extremely intelligent and knows his stuff.

I always used Lane Masters Extreme ball cleaner after league but unfortunately my stash is gone. I have been using Genesis Evolution MAXX, and I believe it is the same formula. My ball revivor has not brought any oil out using either cleaner.

Just my .02 cents
