Title: What causes.....
Post by: TyLytle on September 23, 2003, 07:06:55 PM
the finger nails to turn dark? I have noticed when I use a certain ball my middle finger nail gets a dark spot under it and it really hurts. Is it the span? My driller tells me it is because I am hitting up on the ball. But this is the only ball that does this.

Thanks,
Ty

It is the span, it's too long,

That is what I think too. Usually when I am hitting up on the ball a lot it will burn calluses on the finger pads..

If you like this span length you can pitch the finger away from center and it will help.

As solid9 said the span is definitly to long.

Pitching the fingers away will relieve some of the pressure on the back of the nail but you will loose lift as well.

Put your thumb fully in the ball and lay your fingers across the finger holes. Don't stretch your hand. The first knuckle should be at least 1/3 the way across the finger holes.

may also be pitch - of course, combined with the span. The nail bed is hitting the back of the hole.

Ty, as you know, I used to go to your driller and I had the same problems with him in that he knows it all, makes up excuses and listens to no one. Ty, measure the span yourself and you can tell if it is off or not or come to Heritage on Tues.s or Blvd on Thursdays and I will measure the spans on your balls and show you the differences....Anymore, I measure the span and check pitches before I even leave the Pro Shop and if not right, I tell the Driller right there and make him fix it. Some don't like this, but I've taken too many balls home that had mistakes or wrong drillings and then have to take them back, so that's the way I do it now whether they like it or not.

Thanks guys, and gal! He has only drilled about 40 balls for me. He should know what the span and pitches are.

Think I will go roll through some oil, get it all nice and coated, and go shove it... er take it to him.

Later,
Ty

I had the same problem as well as the pain. As you get older your fingers tend to bend less than they used to. My ball driller pitched the finger holes away and the problem with my middle finger went away, I also realized that my thumb came out of the ball cleaner.
