You need to be on the fast track to the PBA big game.  You're not going to get sponsored most likely unless you can give something back the company.  They sponsor people so when others see them using their gear they associate the company with that person.

Unless you're going to be playing in the top 40 in the PBA chances are you wont find much.

I've seen them give out seed balls to a lot of the top league guys in the area so that they get more exposure to league bowlers also. These guys all average 235 and can make any ball look good though.

I could definitaly see that.  If a person has a reputation in a local area as being a great bowler and they're widely seen locally I could see a ball or 2.

This is not completely true. You don't have to be just going to be on the tour to get sponsorship. There are many on this board that are on Proshop Staff with some companies. A very good friend of mine is on Brunswicks Proshop Staff. Yeah having the game to possibly get on tour does not hurt but that is not the only way.

That's not necessarily true, but...

...that certainly is.

You need to make the case to the company that they will see a revenue increase greater than the expense incurred in sending you the equipment.

In today's tighter market, make that *significantly* greater.

Getting on staff with a company isn't terribly hard for a bowler with a strong tournament (multiple cities) resume.  That usually means you can get bowling balls, bags and shirts.  But not many bowlers outside of the PBA get a salary or are given money to travel.

If you win a major tournament (ie. megabucks or fiq) you will most likely be picked up by the manufacturer of the equipment you used to win it, at least free ball wise.

A close friend of mine was picked up by Brunswick for a year for winning the NABI National championships.

Another friend of mine was picked up by Storm for winning 2 sweepers in the eliminator a few years back.

A former teammate of mine was on Track's staff, he won a senior stop 10 years ago and hasn't done much else since, but they still send him free balls.

You have to keep competing and getting your face out there to keep your sponsorship.
