Pick me a ball!
« on: June 26, 2008, 02:39:26 AM »
I'm retiring my Rotogrip RSX and need something to fill it's spot for a trip to the Hoinke this summer and next falls league.  I basically need something that will get down the lane when the heads start to go, but will still turn the corner when the backends start to tighten up.  I'm thinking another polished solid like the RSX, but I'm open to suggestions.  Here is what I have now and some stats on my game

Cell - OOB 4.5x5 drilling
[New ball would fit here]
T-road Pearl - OOB 4x4
Spare

Mildly speed dominate
17-18mph, 273-300rpm, not much tilt, 60° rotation, usually play 3rd arrow
House shot is Medium, sometimes medium heavy
Hoinke shot is usually on the lighter side, but heard that there is a bunch more oil this year.

Open to suggestions from any manufacturer.

I use my Ultra Zone or Paradigm in this exact spot in my arsenal!  Both fit between my Cell and T-Road Pearl.

Rapid Fire (the polished solid, not the pearl) might be an option, maybe something pearl particle like a Shift or Awesome Revs as well.  A very strong pearl, like the Gravity Shift, probably would work wonders as well.  And one last option:  if you really like the roll on your Cell, you might be able to get away with a second Cell drilled with a longer pin to PAP distance (5.5" or 6" maybe) and try either 4000 abralon or a lower grit with polish.

Momentum?
Dimension @ 4000 abralon?
Mystic or similar particle pearl?

I was actually toying with an idea close to that.

Take my current Cell up to 4000 or polish it and get another drilled 5x3 or 4x4 and leave it OOB.  But I don't know if I'd get enough separation in the two to warrant carrying another one.  My current Cell is pretty versatile and I don't want to mess that up by changing the surface (something I did with the T-Road Pearl, and can't seem to get that OOB reaction back), so that's why I was thinking different ball.

The Ultra Zone looks intriguing, but Videoballreviews makes every ball look good!  What are your experiences?  Does it handle some carrydown?

Another CELL or the new Grand Illusion if you want a solid. I have 2 RSX's and the Ilussion is a litte squirtier, grand will be perfect for me when it comes out.
