Title: What do you consider a good game?
Post by: Porkchop on December 05, 2003, 09:02:07 AM
I'm just curious here, but what do you consider a good game?  I average 220 or so and aim for about 226 or better.  Also, what would you consider a good series?  Usually 700 for me.  Thanks for all replies!

A 190+ with 8 spares and two strikes is a good game.  Beyond that, for a scratch bowler, probably 225+.

I'm happy with anything over my average.

As far as good game or good score, say what you will, after watching the slop strikes last sunday on the pba telecast, and how proud they seemed to be to get them, I'll take them any way I can get them. It all counts on the board.

every release felt good, i hit the board i was looking at, didn't fall off the shot, got all the makeable spares with good cover, didn't throw the wrong line excessively. scores usually take care of themselves. so, i'm disapointed when i shoot 240 with a makeable spare open, and i'm ok with a 8 or 9 spare gave it my best shot 190 clean game.

It depends on the lane conditions.  If I am bowling on an easy pattern I would consider a good series to be 700+, however if I am bowling on a difficult pattern a good series would be 600+.

Anything clean = good game.
10 strikes and 2 splits = pissy game
because I missed my target 2 times.
also = 236 score.(should have been 260-270 if they were
in the pocket and left a single pin)
Good series anytime I leave less than 6 single
pins and convert them in a set.
Score is relative here. Thats when I know I am throwing the ball/ reading the
lanes well.

Well like when it is just me in league, then I aim for my average, so about 220+. But when it comes to tournaments, then it matters how the scoring is in that shot. It can be a tournament bowling on sport, so then I wouldnt be expecting 220s+ every game.

Bones, to answer your question: good score.  Just trying to maintain average!

Hmmmm... maybe you're being facetious...

I'll take the good game/series any time.  If you're bowling well, the scores usually take care of themselves, certainly over the run of a season (your average).  If you scored well one night, but bowled poorly, it's a crap shoot whether or not you'll score well next week, since your score wasn't earned.

I'm only a 170ish average, therefore it's much easier for me to bowl over it.  For me a good game is 200+ and good series 600+.

It's also important to me if I feel I played the game well.  I've had many 200+ games that I didn't feel good about.

Maybe my expectations are too high, but that's what helps me to bowl better.

Well, someone told me years ago that if I kept thinking of 200 as a good score, I'd never be a 200 average bowler. They were right.

Now, I figure anything over 230 is ok. Only 250+ qualifies for a really good game score in my mind.

And it's funny - a couple of years ago I used to keep track of every 600 series I shot. This year, it's 700s.

A good score to me is 230 or better.

A good game is anything CLEAN (no splits, no opens).

660+ series and i don't care how i get there, if I roll that then i know i am doing my part, above and beyond 700 is a really nice night

Depends...

If it's someone on my team, 200+ is a good game.

If it's someone on the other team, anything over their avg. is better than they need to be doing. LOL.

For me, personally, if I'm throwing the ball well the first shot, leaving and making reasonable spares, then I'm happy.  Score doesn't matter quite as much as knowing I am rolling the ball well.

A good game is when I know I am releasing the ball right; Good strikes and picking up all spares.
