What type of ball do you use first (Strongest, Weakest, Mid)?

Where do you stand?

Do you change balls or do you move your feet if it does not hit the pocket?

Talkin' Trash!

I start with my house line then watch the ball reaction. If the ball reads close to what I like, I move. If it doesn't, I go to better ball match up. From there, I adjust my line.

Yep, this works for me.

Throw my typical house line and watch ball's reaction, particularly the breakpoint and backend reaction.  If it's close to what I want, adjust line.  If too early or too late, change ball accordingly.

concerning ball type, whatever ball that you use for your benchmark ball would be the best to start out with.

Ball choice is personal depending on your game and your typical lanes. I suggest first using the ball you normally use and home or see if someone similar to your style is there and what they're throwing.

Or...just grab your "medium" condition ball first.

I start with something in the middle of my arsenal with an even rolling drill. SOmething that is not going to do anything drastic when changes on the lane occur. Then I read the reaction from there and make the adjustment accordingly. It also helps to look a tothers reactions around you while you ware waiting to practice.

I just treat it like my own lanes. Throw my favorite shot, and adjust from there. Treat my adjustments and ball changes the same way.

The first ball out of my bag is my benchmark ball (At this time is the Night Hawk). It is the ball that I am the most comfortable with. Then I go directly up 5 to determine if there is oil on the outer boards. From where the ball hooks determines my next move. If it moves a lot then I move to my comfort zone around 12 or 13 out to 7 standing 24 or 25. If it doesn't then I move to a more inside and direct type of line. Usually 14 or 15 to 10 standing 25.

too lazy reading all the other answers I just give my "routine":

I am a 175 average bowler and so it is difficult for me...

But this is what I once was told by a better bowler:

Take a look what local bowlers do... how do they "attack" the lanes

If there is no time or possibility to see others I just start out 15 and throw over ten with my weakest ball (XXXL) and see how it reacts (practice/warmup session) then I switch to my stronger equipment and even stronger and stronger if needed and get deeper till I am satisfied with carry
and so I try to get a feeling where to send my ball with most room for error and best carry...

(I carry only two reactives and my XXXL... this has to be enough here... after all it is all just THS... )

i throw the ball straight down the second arrow and watch the reaction. i use a middle -of-the-road ball-----not real dull and not highly polished. a ball that's smoothsanded and with a stable layout.

From day one that I started to bowl at two different centers I was always taught to start off like you were bowling at your "house" center. If you stand 20 and throw 15 to 5 then that's what you start at. From there you adjust. If it is a tournament I will try to watch people on the pair that I will be bowling on.

Basically what I would do as well. I usually try the ball the I use all the time and then make an adjustment when need be.

I use a pearl reactive ball.  I find that this type of ball gives you an accurate account of how much oil is on the lanes.

Solid reactives may burn up and give one the impression there bowling on heavier/longer oil.  A pearl reactive will let you know right away if the lanes have long and or heavier oil.

I always play the track area first.  I also don't swing the ball for my first few shots.  I may change balls based on what my reactive pearl is doing.
