Well, not while you are actualy throwing the ball... but do you eat snack bar food?
At my last regional I crossed with Mike Edwards. And to my surprise he was chewing on a protein bar mid-block (remember kids, 8 games is a long time to go without fuel). I pretty much ALWAYS have protein bars in my 2003 Fire Red Durango SXT and I eat one every morning. So when I bowl I can easily go to the Durango and pick up a bar to energy. Excellent idea, by the way.
Food like nachos and pizza spike your sugar levels and eventually cause you to lose energy. Not good fuel when you are trying to be in "sport form".
So do you eat? And what?

lots of water, and usually granola bars if in a long set.
Usually if have time, eat a small meal before bowling and then after have a larger meal.

I do not eat anything not a thing during bowling after or before is fair game. Those of you that know me know I won't waste away even if I bowled for like a month straight.

I don't really play cards and I am not 79, but it fits together somehow.

gatorade is my during-bowling 'beverage/food' of choice.....

I have dinner at home before bowling, eat Luna bars (it's another type of energy bar) during bowling with water, and have my one beer toward the end of the last game.

I try to eat at least an hour or two before bowling during league competition and only drink water during the league. Same for tournament bowling- but that can be hard if you are bowling all day in the same house and you aren't able to bring outside food into the building between meals. If I do have something to eat during bowling it is a sandwich that will be lighter on my stomach. Try to avoid sodas and candy bars during these times as well- because you may get a minor pick me up but then you'll get the mighty sugar rush fall...

I eat nothing before and during bowling. Only eat after. If I eat, it seems to effect my game. Especially if I over eat, which I usually do.

I always have a Hansens energy drink before I bowl, and never do I eat. And usually I drink water during the bowling.

In an eight game block I usually consume about 1.5 litres of water and an apple or a banana.

NEVER eat during bowling .. find that when I bowl more then 3/4 games I drink a lot of water. If I bowl after 6 PM I try to have dinner complete by 5:30 PM .. I'm not a BIG lunch fan so when I have afternoon bowling I hold off eating till DINNER!

If it's during league, often times i'll have the all-too-common popcorn and beer (mmm...Corona...). If it's during a tournament, usually during the 6 game blocks at college tournaments, i'd drink a bunch of water, i'd usually go through the equivalent of about a bottle and a half per game, and if the stomach is really rumbling, i'll go find a granola bar or something else out of the vending machines.

I can't eat before or during bowling. In the winter, I'll have coffee in the first game and water thereafter. For the warmer months, just lots of water. Sometimes I'll have a white wine spritzer.

I drink a ton of water and eat nothing. I can't bowl near as good if I have food in my stomach.

I don't get to very often any more, but I LOVE greasy cheeseburgers and fries while I'm bowling. Unfortunately, not too many bowling alleys have full service grills from the greasy spoon era anymore, so it's definitely a treat when I find one!

Tony, hate to dispell the myth that eating anything while competing will help one pick up energy.
Its a fact that it takes hrs before any food that is consumed is able to be utilized. While something might taste good at the time, one is only fooling themselves in thinking it will give them a boost of energy.
It was the Russians who first discovered the concept of loading carbs days before competition. Today, all athletic programs have their jocks load up on carbs and pastas days before an event.
If one has done that, there is no need to cram anything down the gullet while competing. Fluids are another matter and we have finally learned the value of drinking while competing. (water and sports drinks, not beer or alcohol in any form)
I like the old expression--Lean and mean when competing.

I'm not entirely sure that is true.
An apple, for example, will impact your energy levels within a short period of time. Its sugars are quickly absorbed into the blood, works faster than a cup of coffee.
I know what carb loading is. It's typically used for endurance racing and such. Eating a meal during exercise isn't what I was talking about. I try not to go four hours without eating something. A protein bar or even fruit.

What? Say it isn't so Eddy
Maybe he thought it would offset the beer consumption from the night before.
Mike is over 40 now so maybe he's thinking about things like that.
I don't eat before I bowl and never really give what I eat much thought. I know I'd rather not feel full from a burger and fries right before I bowl.

Longer block tournaments will load carbs night before and low sugar fiber loading morning of or meal replacement shake a few hours before. During I like a little alcohol (most tournaments its not allowed) but more of a tension releiver or nerve soother. Protein bars or meal replacement just after completion as helps muscles replentish what they lost and makes quicker recovery. Bar food at the local house, mean soup( could have anything in it and usually has lots of anything)and the homemade hot sauce on a hot dog before leaving.
