You really have to consider all those things, but my answer is, when in doubt, bowl it.

For singles, I will avoid a THS at all cost.  I don't feel challenged and too often someone throwing it like crap will carry everything that hits the head pin.  Second I look for 5-6 games for qualifying.  The more games, typically the cream will rise to the top.  Last, I want a respectable payout compared to the entry fee.  No one wants to pay $60 for a chance to win $200.  The more of those conditions met, the further I will travel.

I will agree i look at all the things listed including the lanes.

I like tuff lanes the allow a good or hot bowler to excel. I dont want it to be a carry fest with a bunch of Flingers winning.
I like more qualifying games again as mention before better will rise to task.

Want to be an enjoyable experience.

Main thing I look at is the breakdown.  Lot of the tournaments have way too much expenses.  One in the midwest used to be 8 game qualifer.  $120 entry fee, $75 to prize fund ($24 bowling, $21 expenses) TD didn't bowl it, made more in expenses (normally around $5-600) than 1st place.  Showed up one time and found out the alley was cutting him a deal, $2 a game, yet the prize fund breakdown was still only $75.

Also I like the higher breakouts, 1:10, 1:8 instead of the normal 1:4
