I really like the guy I've been going to, but it's costing me a lot to get stuff drilled, in the neighborhood of 80 bucks with grips.  Maybe I'll see if I can get a multi ball discount or something.

You may not want to give his name, but I'm curious to know where you're located.  Because I know a guy here in MD. that's expensive like that.

We charge $30 + inserts/slug, but if the customer does a lot of work, its usually $35 out the door.

Having a base flat price for Internet drills is a great idea.

$40 for fingertip ($20 for conventional)
$8.00 for inserts
$10 for slug (I think, never used a slug)

Why extra for fingertip?  If you are using inserts, isn't it just about the same as drilling conventional, just measured differently?

45 bucks for slug no inserts. A little on the expensive side, but the guy also helps me out with my game all the time for free.

The usual justification is that a conventional ball is usually plastic, you just put the pin in the middle of the grip and be done with it.  No advice or expertise  on layout, reactions, checking top/side weight, or finding the real CG.  The only "extra" work you might do is change drill bits for the fingers since you won't be drilling both the same size to put inserts in.

For drilling, with a slug, its about $18. I hate the type of slug, he only carries one kind. But, its worth it, because he's cheap, AND good. (which doesn't come very often)

I pay nothing since I drill my own equipment, but from a pro shop's standpoint, I don't see why you should be paying anywhere under $45 at the least to get your stuff drilled.  Rent has to be paid at the shop, as well as bills, and check for employees.  Plus a good drill press is gonna run in the ballpark of 20k at the least.  You're paying for a service.  It takes time to map out a ball to taylor to a customer's desired reaction.  If you can't afford the $45 of 50 bucks to get a ball you bought as a deal off the net, then maybe now isn't the time for you to purchase a new ball.

I was always taught growing up that if you can't afford to buy something that you want three times over then it wasn't the right time for you to have it.  Just my 2 cents.
